This super-powered probiotic targets gut health and supports mental well-being

Allison M. Payne April 1, 2025

Super Probiotic by Dee Cee Labs

What if a probiotic helped balance the gut microbiome and could actually improve mood? It turns out mood modulation is another critical function of the gut-brain axis. according to the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Bacteria in the gut play a huge role in maintaining emotional and cognitive functioning. By recommending a clinical-grade probiotic supplement to your patients, you can help them restore balance to their gut flora, improve their digestion and even support their mental and emotional well-being.

Super Probiotic + Prebiotic by Dee Cee Laboratories is a solid choice to suggest to patients. It offers 30 billion colony-forming units (CFUs) of beneficial bacteria per capsule across 10 strains, plus folate, methylcobalamin B12 and intrinsic factor to ensure optimal nutrient absorption.

This probiotic is also freeze-dried with inulin, a proven prebiotic that supports probiotic survival, acting as a food source for the bacteria. Super Probiotic + Prebiotic is free of several common allergens: sugar, dairy, soy, wheat, starch and artificial additives.

Gut health benefits backed by science

A 2021 study in the journal Biology found that taking a multi-strain probiotic supplement improved gut microbiota diversity and reduced inflammation, and that the synergy of multiple strains of bacteria amplifies that result. The strains blended into Super Probiotic + Prebiotic, including Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus casei and Bifidobacterium bifidum, are linked to improved digestion, reduced bloating and better stool consistency.

Lactobacillus acidophilus on its own can enhance intestinal barrier integrity and reduce gut permeability, according to a 2022 article in Frontiers in Immunology. This can be especially beneficial for patients dealing with symptoms of irritable bowel syndrome (IBS).

Mental health support via the gut-brain axis?

Some probiotic strains may sharpen cognitive function. In a study of Alzheimer’s patients in Frontiers in Aging Neuroscience, researchers gave milk with four probiotics in it to the subjects for 12 weeks, after which they scored much better than control group subjects on tests designed to gauge cognitive impairment.

Mood regulation also depends on the gut microbiome’s condition. A 2024 research review published in the journal Nutrients noted that Bifidobacterium longum and Lactobacillus helveticus helped reduce anxiety and depressive symptoms in adult research subjects. These stress-relieving effects may be due to modulation of the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and reduced cortisol levels.

Probiotics can also increase production of the neurotransmitter gamma aminobutyric acid (GABA), which has a calming effect on mood as its levels rise. A 2023 article in the Journal of Applied Microbiology found Levilactobacillus brevis and Lactiplantibacillus plantarum to be most efficient at producing GABA, out of seven bacteria strains tested.

Better absorption

Super Probiotic + Prebiotic also contains methylcobalamin (a bioavailable form of vitamin B12), folate and intrinsic factor. These components work together to improve nutrient absorption—which is especially critical for patients with reduced stomach acid or intrinsic factor deficiency.

According to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, intrinsic factor is a requirement for transporting B12 across the intestinal wall. Inadequate levels of intrinsic factor impair B12 absorption, so no matter how much patients take, they will not experience B12’s many benefits.

Methylcobalamin has been linked to improved neurological function and reduced homocysteine levels, which supports cardiovascular and cognitive health. A 2015 review article in the Journal of Pharmacology and Therapeutics details several of methylcobalamin’s functions, which include a role in making neuronal lipids, fats that act as signaling molecules needed for nerve cells to communicate.

Inulin enhances probiotic viability

Super Probiotic + Prebiotic is freeze-dried with inulin, a prebiotic fiber that acts as a fuel source for probiotic bacteria. Probiotics supplemented with inulin, according to a 2022 study published in Microbiology, were more effective, contributing to richer gut biodiversity, and those subjects who took the prebiotic-probiotic combination showed fewer signs of illness and disease than subjects who took a prebiotic or probiotic alone.

Inulin boosts bacterial survival, improves stool regularity and feeds native gut bacteria, building the microbiome’s resilience.

Make a super suggestion

With top-quality, research-backed ingredients and formulated for optimal absorption, Super Probiotic + Prebiotic by Dee Cee Laboratories is an ideal addition to patient treatment plans targeting digestive and neurological wellness.
