News round-up: USDA stresses supplements; health conferences announce postponements or switch to virtual

Chiropractic Economics September 4, 2020

Council for Responsible Nutrition to Present Annual Events Virtually in October

The Council for Responsible Nutrition (CRN) will hold its annual flagship events virtually in 2020. The traditional science-focused day-long symposium, “The Workshop: CRN’s Day of Science,” is transforming to span two half-days, renamed as “Science In Session,” taking place on Tuesday, Oct. 13, and Wednesday, Oct. 14.

“The Conference: CRN’s Annual Symposium for the Dietary Supplement Industry,” CRN’s traditional in-person meeting, will be reimagined as a virtual experience with the theme “Now, New, Next,” taking place Wednesday, Oct. 14, through Friday, Oct. 16, and comprising several partial day sessions and networking events.

USDA dietary report stresses supplements to address the food-insecure 37 million Americans, especially children

The USDA’s Dietary Guidelines Advisory Committee expressed concerns about “under-consumption of vitamin D, calcium, dietary fiber, and potassium” among children.

The report also emphasized that food insecurity affecting more than 37 million people, including 6 million children is a problem that disproportionately affects “low-income, Black, non-Hispanic, and Hispanic households.”

Virtual microbiome conferences in November

The World of Microbiome is a new platform dedicated to advancing scientific knowledge and practice in the emerging field of microbiome. The Nov. 4-6, 2020 series is designed to interpret recent research and analyze real-world case-studies. It provides a unique opportunity for scientists, clinical researchers, start-ups and established industry companies to form new collaborations and discuss the potential impact of the latest findings on patient care.

The 2020 event will aim to come up with regulatory guidelines for the use of probiotics in a joint debate. Another focus of the program is the host microbiome interactions in health and disease and the antibiotic crises.

Integrative Healthcare Symposium postpones 2021 conference

The 2021 Integrative Healthcare Symposium, scheduled to take place Jan. 14-16 at the Hilton Midtown in New York City, has been postponed by its organizer, Diversified Communications. The conference will now take place May 2-4, 2021.

The global outbreak of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) led to the postponement, according to Liz Plizga, Diversified Communications Group Vice President.
