Anthem misrepresents ACA’s position in advertisement

Chiropractic Economics March 12, 2010

March 12, 2010 — An advertisement purchased by Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield and published in three Kentucky newspapers on March 8 uses a policy of the American Chiropractic Association (ACA) to defend its position against a pro-chiropractic bill under consideration in the state senate. ACA, however, had no part in the creation of the ad and was never consulted by Anthem regarding its position on the bill.

ACA believes the advertisement takes its policy out of context and is misleading to readers. The association sent letters to the editors of the Lexington Herald Leader, the Louisville Courier Journal and the Owensboro Messenger Inquirer newspapers clarifying its position.

The bill, SB 157, was submitted on behalf of members of the chiropractic profession in Kentucky to address patient access to chiropractic care and reimbursement for doctors of chiropractic. The issues the bill targets have persisted for more than six years in Kentucky.
