July 24, 2010 — The American Chiropractic Association (ACA) recently shared its concern over the use of tiered networks, as echoed by the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA).
Patients often do not understand the differentiation between providers, and the efficiency of tiered networks is questionable.
On July 16, numerous state medical associations, along with the American Medical Association (AMA), submitted a letter to major insurers arguing that grading procedures used in tiering may be unreliable and unfair. They argue that this amounts to profiling and disproportionally influences patient care.
This strong stand by these medical associations reiterates ACA’s long-held position that tiered networks are not an effective means of quality healthcare. To learn more, click here.
