August 18, 2008 — “It was a life-changing experience,” said Life Chiropractic College West student Khalid Chaney, as he spoke to a campus audience about his experiences on a recent chiropractic mission trip to Ghana.
Chaney was one of four Life West chiropractic interns led by Dr. Mark Thompson, a member of Life West’s faculty, who traveled to Accra, Ghana for two weeks in June. The group provided chiropractic care to over a thousand Ghanaians during the country’s first “Spinal Awareness Week Ghana.”
The trip, the third mission from Life West to Ghana, was organized under the auspices of Aid for AIDS Africa, founded by Maurice Graham, and was coordinated through Bryan Cox, DC, who practices in Ghana. Dr. Cox organized the Spinal Awareness Week and spent six months preparing and promoting the event.
The Life West team adjusted people at several sites in and around Accra.The locations where the team went included the Osu Children’s Home, three churches, a police hospital, Korle Bu Teaching Hospital (the largest such facility in Ghana), and the Village of Hope Orphanage.
In addition to Chaney and Dr. Thompson, the group included interns Bryant Harris, Derek Gallant, and Anni Ala.
