The power of not giving up and belief in oneself
CHIROPRACTIC IS A LIVING EXAMPLE OF THE WORD PERSEVERANCE.
From the beginning of its origin to where it has evolved now, chiropractic has faced the odds, overcome the obstacles and flourished into the artful practice we know and love today. Belief in oneself creates the action needed to accomplish any goal or overcome any obstacle. Every DC knows the approach to serving and healing through chiropractic medicine gives new meaning to the optimization of health and the revival of one’s faith in all those it helps. Chiropractic inspires many patients to believe in themselves and in their innate intelligence to heal.
Changing lives for more than 130 years, chiropractic has a rich history of perseverance.
Ultimately, the journey of chiropractic care is one of persistence and progress. Changing lives for more than 130 years, chiropractic has a rich history of perseverance. Within the realm of chiropractic care, there exists a collection of real-life accounts both past and present that illuminate the profound impact this profession has had on individuals’ lives. For those beginning their journey or are in the process of learning chiropractic medicine, stay the course; the rewards are well worth it. As someone who has faced some overwhelming odds to become a licensed chiropractic physician, I can honestly say to you now that there is no better feeling then seeing a renewed sense of vitality and better quality of life through your work with your patients. The question I ask all future physicians in this profession is a simple one: “Would you give up so quickly on yourself when the key to success is simply right in front of you?” The answer is quite simple; it is the belief in yourself, your patients and your ability to persevere through it all no matter the obstacle.
Changing lives for more than 130 years, chiropractic has a rich history of perseverance.
Perseverance is more than just enduring difficult situations; it is about maintaining a steadfast commitment to progress, even when the end goal feels distant. In patients’ eyes, injury and recovery can be an emotional and physical challenge. A herniated disc, a sprained ankle or even whiplash injury often comes with more than just pain but frustration, doubt, even uncertainty. In these moments the urge to give up is strong. Yet, it is also during these times that perseverance is needed the most. We all have the strength to grasp what’s needed to work through all those things that hold us back even in the face of uncertainty and doubt.
According to DD Palmer, DC, “Chiropractic embraces the science of life, the knowledge of how organisms act in health and disease and also the art of adjusting the neuroskeleton.”
According to his son, the developer of chiropractic, BJ Palmer, DC, “The vitalistic approach to health is not to treat symptoms but to remove sources of interference and allow the body to heal on its own.”
So, what interference in your life is preventing you from believing that you can achieve something? The greatest interference I believe anyone faces in their life is the doubt they place on themselves day in and day out. The key to success I have learned in my years is in the inner strength each of us holds; it keeps you striving toward your dreams, maintaining hope when the road gets rough and finding the courage to start again and again even in setback after setback. Imagine where we would be today if DD Palmer decided to give up after the first adjustment to Harvey Lillard. Imagine the scrutiny he faced when he discovered this alternative to medicine.
You will see the power of perseverance through your patients’ treatments and the difference you create in their lives.
When you reach the goal in chiropractic or when your patients reach recovery, the journey doesn’t end there; it’s merely a new beginning. As time goes on, you will start to see how your knowledge affects your patients. We as a community of chiropractic physicians must teach our patients the importance of sustaining health through continuous chiropractic care, proper nutrition, regular physical activity and mindfulness practices. The goal shifts from merely healing to thriving, ensuring individuals do not just return to their pre-injured state but advance toward an even healthier, more resilient version of themselves. In truth, you will see the power of perseverance through your patients’ treatments and the difference you create in their lives.
Final thoughts
DCs play a pivotal role in maintaining alignment, preventing future injuries and enhancing patients’ overall wellness. Coupled with lifestyle adjustments and wellness education, patients embark on a path of proactive health management. The endless testimonials from those who have walked this path illuminate a transformed perspective on health. These newly adopted habits form a healthier, more positive outlook, enriching patients’ lives in ways they hadn’t imagined and you, the chiropractic physician, will be the center of it all.
So, what is your story of perseverance? Can you see the impact chiropractic will create in so many lives you will help? The hope I have for you is that when you witness the miracles you create as a chiropractic physician you remember that your story and your journey are what led you here. It is what created your strength, your resilience and your belief in yourself. And it will shine through each patient in every adjustment just as DD Palmer witnessed the miracle after Harvey Lillard’s hearing returned to him. Never forget the power of your innate intelligence and go forth and serve.
