Tanita introduces new body composition analyzer

Chiropractic Economics Staff March 18, 2014

SC240_StraightMarch 18, 2014 — Tanita Corporation recently introduced their SC-240 Body Composition Analyzer. This FDA-cleared body composition monitor is light and highly portable with a built-in handle and battery power allowing greater accessibility for users, and increased portability and accuracy for travelling healthcare and fitness professionals.

The SC-240 Body Composition Analyzer offers a 440-pound weight capacity, and a 0.2-pound. graduation. The large, low profile platform measures weight and can instantly calculate body fat percent and total body water percent, in addition to BMI.

Offering in-depth individual analysis of body composition helps provide a clearer picture than weight and BMI alone as it highlights specific fat loss.

The SC-240 incorporates a USB port for fast and easy export of data into an EMR or other health and fitness software. It is marketed as an FDA-cleared 510(k) type 2 medical device.

It uses Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis (BIA) technology, which sends a safe, low-level electrical signal from footpads on the platform through the body.  BIA is quick and non-invasive, and one of the most thorough and reliable ways to measure body composition.
