Table offers new chiropractic options for cancer patients

Chiropractic Economics April 25, 2013

Galaxy-900-HS-TApril 25, 2013 — Medical Director of Chiropractic Services Jeffrey Sklar, DC, has been using chiropractic to help many cancer patients reduce pain and discomfort, increase mobility, strength and function, and improve overall well-being since he joined Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) in Philadelphia in 2009.

Now, with the addition of a state-of-the-art Galaxy Ultimate chiropractic table, he will be able to offer additional chiropractic techniques to appropriate patients at CTCA, while enhancing patient comfort and safety.

The Galaxy Ultimate, which was installed April 16, is designed for patient comfort in addition to improved safe and effective treatment. It offers several low and non-force technique options that minimize stress on the patient while maximizing and optimizing the treatment outcomes. In addition, the table has a platform that allows compromised patients to stand upright on, lowers them to a resting position, and then raises them back up at the end of treatment.

“Over the last few years, I’ve been privileged to share my experience at CTCA with many of my colleagues from throughout the country. Chiropractic treatment can relieve pain and stiffness in joints and muscles caused or intensified by surgery, chemotherapy or radiation therapy, said Sklar. “The Galaxy Ultimate is just one more chiropractic tool to help reduce treatment side effects and improve the quality of life of our courageous patients.”

Lloyd A. Steffensmeier, DC, the Galaxy Ultimate’s manufacturer, founder of Lloyd Table Company and recipient of the esteemed Parker Lifetime Achievement Award was at CTCA when the table was installed at the hospital. “Cancer Treatment Centers of America is one of very few institutions throughout the world that fully integrates chiropractic into their holistic approach to cancer care,” said Steffensmeier. “I am confident that Dr. Sklar’s patients will reap an even greater benefit from the many features this new table offers.”

Steffensmeier began manufacturing chiropractic adjusting tables in 1963 from the basement of his Mt. Vernon, Iowa practice. The company has steadily grown to encompass an approximately 50,000 square foot facility, producing tables that are distributed around the world.
