October 22, 2010 — Among more than 5,000 influential health and fitness professionals, Dr. Fabrizio Mancini, president of Parker College of Chiropractic, recently attended the largest international fitness event in the world — the IDEA World Fitness Convention in Los Angeles, where U.S. Surgeon General Dr. Regina M. Benjamin, and Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa celebrated health and well-being.
Supporting Benjamin’s vision for a healthy and fit nation, the event included a walk with several hundred participants including Mancini.
Following the walk, Benjamin presented her vision and plan to combat the alarming trend of obesity in America. Benjamin, in partnership with First Lady Michelle Obama and U.S. Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, has announced plans to help Americans lead healthier lives through better nutrition, regular physical activity, and by encouraging communities to support healthy choices.
“It’s so refreshing to have a surgeon general that is truly dedicated to promoting health and well-being and not just the management of disease,” said Mancini.
Benjamin received the 2010 IDEA Leadership Award for her leadership in stressing the importance of having a healthy and fit nation.
During the convention, the IDEA Health & Fitness Association, the leading membership organization of health, wellness, and fitness professionals including personal trainers, group fitness instructors, fitness directors, and fitness business owners in more than 80 countries, launched IDEA FitnessConnect, a free fitness consumer advocacy website that provides access to certified fitness professionals.
