Gloria Hall: Michael, can you explain the problem we are talking about that? Has you talking about improving negotiation skills with attorneys? Why is this needed.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Thanks, Gloria. I appreciate the opportunity. And talking to your tribe and all the chiropractors out there really appreciate what you guys and gals do to me. You really are the heroes of personal injury, and I’ll do that for actually 3 reasons. One is.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: you’re the hero because you
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: relieve pain
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and suffering, and I think that gets sometimes undermined a little bit in our society today.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: The second reason is, especially in personal injury. It’s your bills.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: your treatment, your established support of the pain and suffering that actually lends to your patient’s recovery in the Pi lawsuit or claim.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: And lastly, after all of this.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: You actually wait sometimes years to get paid, and I think that makes you a business hero in personal injury. But as a glorious question.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: your question, I think
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: you know, if you look about the problem here.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: there’s
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: fear. And I think
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: chiropractors and a lot of medical specialties out there have a fear about personal injury, because they hear all these horror stories.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: You know all the kind of abuses by some of the law firms, or, of course, where they just don’t get paid anything. And
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: so that is true, absolutely. There are issues that go with personal injury or in anything you do. Health insurance. You name it.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: but I think what you’ll find is there are kind of 3 different types of attorneys that you’ve got to deal with, so I wouldn’t just put in, though you know how difficult and bad it is because you do have the good attorneys.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: You’ve got the ones that really
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: value, who you are and what you do.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: They want to pay you your full bill.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: They care about you as well as their own client, because you have helped their client.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Then there are the bad attorneys.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: not everybody’s good at what they do.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: You can go into websites, and I think here’s a little tip for you all right away.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: When you get into personage attorney, go to their website
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and look to see if all they do is pi.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: If you see, like
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: criminal law, family law, whatever it is.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Personal injury is an adjunct. It’s an additive.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: that’s not what their focus is. It’s so they don’t lose clients. So that means there are issues when they do pi.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: so nothing is good at what they do. And you get where settlements need yours to know about that.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: And then you have
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: the ugly guys.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Okay, so you’ve got the ugly attorneys who literally mislead on the law, mislead on the facts, hide settlements, hide things, and they look upon you as a medical provider, as
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: how they’re going to make them more money, their clients more money, and put on the backs of the medical providers, especially the chiropractors.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So I think it’s important to kind of get that layout first. As to
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: why learning how to negotiate so that number one. You get more from the good attorneys.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and you’re maintaining and growing those relationships. And there are ways to do that
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: now. We only got so much time here, and a lot of that goes with my coaching program instead.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: But it’s the second, the bad and the more difficult attorneys where really today that we’re going to talk about is going to be more of a focus.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: How do you go and maximize returns from them.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Yeah. So
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: hope the little winded answer there for the first one glory, but I wanted to kind of set the stage for everybody.
Gloria Hall: Alright. So you mentioned the different types that chiropractors would have to negotiate against. Can you talk about that?
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Yeah, you know, there are. You know, whenever you’re near Bobby, this isn’t just negotiating in pi. Part of the methodology is really negotiating in any business or in life, our relationships, the things that we do.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So we’ll talk about kind of my method later. But let’s just talk right here since you asked about the 3
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: types that you’ll come across on the other side of the negotiation table. Or here, it’s email, mostly right in today’s society. And I encourage that. We’ll talk about that later. I think as well about the importance of email for you guys.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: But you’re going to. There’s 3 counter types that you are going to be dealing with, whether it’s an attorney or a law firm, Staffer.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So first, you’re going to have what’s called who I would categorize as the analyst
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: accuracy is absolute.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: They are all about facts, data being accurate in things.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Then you’ve got the accommodators.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: The accommodators want harmony.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: They like the win-win. They want that, and you feel good, too.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Then you’ve got the assertives. That’s the third type.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: you know. They’re as winning as everything. It’s it’s you know.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: this is all about really competition and part of what you’re doing. So how you deal with the different attorney types.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: And Lawford Stafford Times
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: varies, and really can know what buttons buttons to push.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: what buttons to stay away from. And let me give you an example. Let’s take
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: just the mere fact of silence.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: You’re not responding to an email.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: or actually think about this when someone’s not responded to you and think about which of these are you? I mean, we’re all.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: you know, primary on one, and maybe secondary in another. But think of silence this way. So let’s take the the analyst
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: when you’re not responding to the analyst.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: To them they have more time to analyze.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: They’re thinking, what do they miss? What more can I do
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: when you’re not responding and are silent to an accommodator.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: They’re thinking.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: what’s wrong.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: What did I do wrong? Are they mad at me? What’s going on
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: right? So they take it a little more personally.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: the assertive
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: that actually gives them more time to assert more
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: right? They just go. I’ve got an opening. Let me go more and more and more, and they really will press it.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So that’s just one example of many things. But if you know the type, it’s like when you’re in anything in life, you’ll know kind of how to react a little bit better to somebody. So that’s a really important part.
Gloria Hall: Okay, Michael, I just have to ask, how did you get into this space to champion chiropractors.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Great question.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: this was well over a decade ago. I was actually helping my local chiropractor, a friend of mine, Dr. Tim Noble. He’s in, and I’m hills in California.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and he came to me with, said Mike. Can you help me? I’m getting screwed by these attorneys, and I’d like to get paid. Can you help me here? I said, well, I didn’t know I hadn’t dealt on the lean side before. Right. I began a little bit about what I do is my earlier background was as an insurance defense attorney and a medical malpractice defense attorney, and then a business attorney.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: I said, Sure, let me help you.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So I got them fully paid
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: on all 5 different matters by 5 attorneys, and his job kind of
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: dropped. And he goes.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: How did you do that? I said.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Here’s where my naive teeth came into play.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: You don’t usually get paid your bill.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: I wasn’t understanding what was going on in personal injury. I wasn’t understanding how it was working in the normal business world
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: when we do business and you have a bill. You pay the bill. I mean, you don’t go off, and the person that puts the rip on your house pay a different number. You pay what you agreed to.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So that was kind of a different nuance. And that’s when I also found
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: there was nobody
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: not just in California.
Gloria Hall: Here at the end.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Entire country.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: nobody championing
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: the medical provider, especially the chiropractor.
Gloria Hall: Hmm.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Yeah, I get that because
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: you know a lot of the for the chiropractors. Your your bills are smaller. So what do you do? You’re going to go buy, pay some hourly attorney
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and in the end the problem was.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: medical providers feel
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: I don’t want to say less, but certainly outmatched when they’re dealing with law firms. Remember law firms fight in battle for a living every day is profession.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: What do they do? They argue in battle with insurance adjusters, or whoever they’re dealing with.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: What do you guys do?
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: You heal?
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: You’re givers.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: They’re more takers. So it’s it’s this total imbalance and a perceived inequity. You have far more control than you realize, and that’s what I found in doing it, because you find that the facts and the law are so much more in your favor. In most States.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: then you realize.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: but the law firms tend to not want you to necessarily know that or how to assert it, or how to combat it.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So as I got started in this, and I realized what a need.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and I found this incredible.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: wonderful segment
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: healers
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: who I consider heroes that I got to champion.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So I did that a lot first myself in in California, through the company I had, where I play as the intermediary. Then I just decided, if I’m going to fix what really is a broken industry which is personal injury.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: especially as to medical providers.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: I had to expand the knowledge, I had to expand the skills.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So I needed to find a way to get it to everybody so that you can do this on your own wherever you’re at.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: because I see too many practices.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: You know it’s the you’re great treaters. Where oftentimes I find lacking in chiropractic is the business of business.
Gloria Hall: Okay.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So it’s wanting you to be better business owners, and part of that
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: is about being paid. It’s a difficult subject.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and they like to just teal.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: But profit is what you know fuels the business engine
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: for paying your your staffers great, giving you more free time skinning for growth. And when eventually you want to exit.
Gloria Hall: Alrighty. Let’s take a step back for a minute. Many chiropractors are reluctant to start or grow personal injury. Segment. What are the top reasons you think chiropractic offices need to grow or add one.
Gloria Hall: Oh, okay.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Really good. I think the kind of 2 components there one is on the kind of like, why aren’t they?
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Well, I think that for
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: chiropractors, and
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: how they go about doing this is
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: beer kind of takes over.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: you know. I think, that they are afraid they hear the horror stories. It’s
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: experiences that maybe they’ve had. They’ve heard from others. They go to conferences. They hear what other, you know Dcs have talked about
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and what they miss are realizing all these important value drivers that they can bring to personal injury.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: It’s this unique niche. And you have to learn about doing this
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: in a unique way.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: because that’s what really
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: allows you to be the go to
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: for the good attorneys
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and allows you to better position and protect yourself when it is time to be paid by even the the batter, or the even the ugly ones.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Of course, even then there’s still ways to get around it, even when they’re still not going to be cooperative.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: But the thing that I want to then focus you all on is, I call it Ypi.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: If it’s got some of these problems. Why the heck should I be doing this?
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: There are many reasons, especially for the chiropractic base, that this should be
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: a segment of every single chiropractor’s practice in the country.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Not a single chiropractor, I believe in this country should not have personal injury as a business segment.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Here’s why.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: first of all, can you name me any
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: anything out there as a as an injury? Area
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: where chiropractic is the number one medical specialty, the first doctor or medical provider that you go to
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: doesn’t exist
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: other than personal injury
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: around this country.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: The very first medical provider but wasn’t like the emergency room at the hospital.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: That a injured, especially driver in auto cases goes.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: is a chiropractor.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So it is this gateway to new patients who don’t never even heard about chiropractic before
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: or never experience chiropractic
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: to get the wonders and magic that chiropractic has to offer.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: The next is so you got these volume rehabilitation right. So you’re also we’ve got surgical matters.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: After that it’s got to have a rehab part to even those.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Why aren’t you taking advantage of the rehab side and leaving that just to physical therapy.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Chiropractors are perfect for that.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: You’ve also got where you know when you want to talk about being difficult, try dealing with insurance reimbursement. Right? You are battling the paper, pushing game back and forth
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: for the lowest pay you can get with these in network insurers.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Pi
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: pays you at your full out of network rates.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and you should be able to get on a lot of your matters a hundred percent.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: It should be more than norm than the exception. When you do this right.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So if you’re getting paid more, you can actually treat less patience
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and have a higher revenue stream, or treat the same amount, and really ratchet up and scale what you’re doing on your practice and your profits.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and the last thing I’d probably say on there.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: I mean, there’s so many more. But one, I believe a lot is medical collaboration.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: I think we lack that a lot on the medical side. PI. Has this built-in lean network.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: a collaboration between different specialties to help the health of the patient.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: It leads to also better patient outcomes. When you do this right.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: but it’s also a way to help to grow your practice through peers.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and I think it’s important for chiropractic to help to educate the Md sector, the other sectors about how great and what you do and the other areas you cover.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and that, and that you are a great augmentation to the healthcare of their patients.
Gloria Hall: Okay, thank you.
Gloria Hall: Michael. What do you find? The biggest hurdles for chiropractors doing well in pi negotiations?
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: I would say. There’s probably 4 things that I would say that are primary.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: one is the wrong mindset, right mindset matters. It’s like in sports. What is here in sports. It’s it’s 20% physical and 80% mental.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Because, you know, when you go out there, you are all really good traders. I mean, there’s got to be
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: a really minimal amount of providers that just do bad treatment.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So most out there really are helping their patient, 80% must be really providing value that way.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: But what you’ve got to realize is you are even more important when it comes to personal injury
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: you have because of what you do and how you do it.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: how you document, how you treat
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: you have this amazing opportunity to help the attorney, the patient, and yourself in pi.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So the second thing I would say, is
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: not open to learning.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: I find this especially more with the grizzled veterans that I talk with, you know. It’s kind of we think, oh, I gotta. I know everything. I’ve been doing this for a long time.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Yeah, but it’s kind of like when I was skiing. You know what? I skied for a long time, and I didn’t do it right.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and it took a long time for the for the instructor I was working with to break down the bad habits to get to the good ones, and then I was scheming like a madman right?
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: The best. At what of whatever we do in the in this country sports business. You name it.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: It’s those who are open to learning who realize we don’t know everything.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: And in fact, it’s weird. There’s more of what we don’t know. We don’t know than what we do.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So I really think it’s about having that open mindset being open to learning more things. It doesn’t mean we have to apply everything we hear everything I talk about.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: But when you find some golden nuggets at things that mesh up and make sense.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: apply it to your practice. Don’t just learn things, apply them.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and that’s how you improve.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: The third thing I think, that I find lacking with a lot of medical offices is not leveling up their staff.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Your staff
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: is how it frees up your time.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Your staff is how you become more efficient and more effective.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Your staff is how you profit more and can scale and grow
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: so when you can up the skill levels of your staff.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: And this day and age of younger staff that really wants their skills developed.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: you get happier staff and staff that stays, your retention comes up more. And this is an awesome area to increase
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: the levels of skills for staff.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: And let’s not also forget
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: if they’re going to feel unmatched, and you deal with some law firms that are quite aggressive and abusive. Sometimes
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: I mean, literally, either yelling or threatening.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: You’ve got to get them more empowered to where they’ve got the confidence to address this to better protect them.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So the the last thing I would. So, by the way on that staff, I say. Bring them along and get them that training.
Gloria Hall: Name.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Fourth and final one, that, I would say, is
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: not having a process and method
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: for approaching your processes and your negotiating with attorneys.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Medical offices are great at systems, right? You can’t have a medical office seeing a lot of patients without having really efficient systems. The more efficient it is, the more you can see and the more profit you make.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: It’s the same thing in pi folks.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: but you’ve got to learn what works in pi or works to negotiating with attorneys, so that your staff and you can be more efficient and more effective and more profitable.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: not just with the bad ones, but even with the good attorneys to help you.
Gloria Hall: Okay.
Gloria Hall: Michael, let’s talk about negotiations. Aikido.
Gloria Hall: Why do you call it that.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: You know, when I had this method that was developed a long time ago and then done. Why, I like Aikido. It’s a form of martial art, and if you’re familiar at all with Aikido.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: it’s a martial art where you’re using the energy, size, and tendencies of the opponent
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: to your advantage both offensively and defensively.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So it’s a it’s you normally might see this really gigantic person, this really small person, that small person can literally own the big person using Aikido.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So it was such a great way to analogize, to negotiate with attorneys who had this perception
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: again
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: of, and sometimes proceed to be at another level.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and higher and more powerful.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: But it shouldn’t be, not for you, the medical provider.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So when you learn a lot, just like Aikido, and you get into the techniques
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: like you do in Daiketo. You get into the mindset
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: like Aikido, which is an ethics mindset
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and professionalism mindset.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: You find that this is a wonderful way of approaching, negotiating with personal injury attorneys.
Gloria Hall: What is it about attorneys not wanting to reveal about settlements, or what they are being paid.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: I mean, that’s a good, you know, that gets into, though if I say a negotiqueto, there is a
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: a method to that. So negotio is. The overall map is the overall aspect of how we’re going about doing what we’re doing and negotiating.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: But as a specific method
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: in which to apply, negotiate Aikido.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So what I’ve come up with is called the disruptive method of lean negotiation. Now, please don’t view. Disruptive as this negative view, disruptive is a very powerful force. There’s a lot of powerful disruptions that are out there.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So I want you to think of disrupting as even disrupting ourselves right? We can’t
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: get to next levels in whatever we do otherwise get really complacent. Yeah, we kind of get fine in mediocrity or average.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: If you want to get to next levels. You’ve got to disrupt yourself to help you to transform. And as we’re disruptive really is coming from here.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: But all the letters of disruptive mean something.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So let me just name what each of those those letters mean? In this, in this virtual training that I do that which we’ll talk about later. I get into these deeper and wider, and I’ll mention a little bit here today because it should matter to you.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: But so look at disruptive right DISR, UPTI, VE. So each letter has a meaning.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: The d is for define your value
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: both internally.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and how the marketplace defines you
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and what you’re worth and your services.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: The eye is to identify the real issues because a lot of times what someone wants to say is an issue is really false. It’s not really. It’s kind of a deflection and a misdirection.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: The S is for stop spot and stop
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: the tricks, tactics, and tongs that go on.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: And you know there’s so many of those by law firms and attorneys, and you get to learn what those are, and there’s a long list, then how to address them specifically.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: the R. And disruptive is Reassess
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: ROI.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: And ROR.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Now you know what roi is right. Returning investment.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: That’s a more familiar. That’s kind of short term profits.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Ror. You might not have heard about before.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: return on relationships.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: because there are relationships with the law firms, relationships with your patients.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So you’re kind of balancing this Roi with ro in general, but also very specifically
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: the you and disruptive is one I just love, it’s called, is for uncover
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: the facts.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: I’ll hit a scenario with what you talked about in terms of confidentiality after I run through the rest of these, because I think it really applies here.
Gloria Hall: Okay.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: P. Is for prioritize.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Be persistent
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and be patient.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: You’ve got to be able to prioritize, you know, in terms of
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: how much you need to get paid, and there’s ways of doing that with primary goals and batna your best alternative.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: You’ve got to be persistent with law firms.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: If any of you have dealt with law firms, you know. You can’t just sit back and wait for them to come to you. You got to go to them, and there’s ways to do that that are more effective.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: And then you got to be patient.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: But
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: patience pays.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Because when we talked about Ypi, and how profitable pi is compared to your other practice. Segments.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: profits always worth waiting for.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: especially when you can learn to make it happen.
Gloria Hall: Name.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So the T.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: And disruptive
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: is, you know, kind of comes from the old Ronald Reagan. Quote at the time of the Cold war which was trust, but verify when it was dealing with the Russians right, and they were going to disarm in terms of nuclear weapons and and bring that down. It was trust they were bringing down the nuclear weapons, but verify it was happening.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: And with attorneys you get a lot of things where they throw out stuff.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Fax law! But you’ve got to learn how to verify what it is that they’ve said.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: because, unfortunately.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: a lot of what it’s being said isn’t the case
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: isn’t the whole case, and you got to know the difference. So the I and disruptive is inject advantages strategically.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Now you suggest, because I thought, you know, hey? It’s great for medical offices, you know, for chiropractor. We’re against injections right? But injections could kind of hurt right, or they could not be felt like when you get your blood work right?
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: And that matters here. It’s how, when do we inject? How do we inject, and what do we inject are the things we found
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: to help us when we negotiate.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: then in the V
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: indisruptive is value versatility.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: You got to be flexible. You got to be adaptable.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Can’t just say I will always do it this way.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: That’s just not life.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: It’s not situations. And this becomes situational.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So it’s just to value the fact of who you’re dealing with, who you are, your patient and just value, that situations are unique. And again, all these things, you know, I go in deeper on on my trainings, but I want to give you a little feel for it, and the last is, it’s important.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Employ emotional awareness.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: PI can be very frustrating when you’re dealing with some of the more difficult attorneys can be incredibly frustrating. Anger can build. You want to let it out.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: You got to learn to control it.
Gloria Hall: To me.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: At the same time, sometimes
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: letting a little emotions out strategically
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: ain’t a bad thing.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So it’s ways. If you see through disruptive. And all of these when you align these dominoes
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: in a row. And why, I say I, I like to analogize the disruptive method to a set of dominos.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Think of each of those letters as like an individual tile of a domino set.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and when you light up the dominoes in a row, right.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and you press over the first one. What happens?
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: They all start going over to the eventual land. And you’ve seen these
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: amazing domino things are like they go all around trees, uphills and create these amazing things.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: And all it took was pressing the first one because they aligned everything up correctly.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: That’s what this is
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: when you apply the disruptive method
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: with Negotiqueto.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: It’s like a domino cascade.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Success is inevitable.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: And let’s use
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: you said an example you mentioned about confidentiality.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So let’s hit that as a great example.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: not going to all the aspects of disruptive that applies. But let’s just take the U for and cover the facts.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So when
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: when an attorney
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and says the case is settled, I’m only going to pay you this.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: What’s the first thing you want to know?
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: How much did the case settle for.
Gloria Hall: Hmm.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Next thing you want to know is.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: how much are you getting? What’s everybody else getting? How much is the patient getting? Is there more you could maybe get in this case, where are we at?
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So what you’re trying to uncover are the facts and a lot of law firms want to say
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: it’s confidential and not give them to you.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: What are they hiding?
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: And a lot of times? That’s exactly it.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: If you are able to see what’s being hidden. It gives you all that army armament
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and what to come back to under the I which was injecting advantages strategically
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: right? So you’ll find that. Oh, and then one other aspect. You’ll learn when you when you
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: deal, and what’s in your favor.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: that there are facts and laws and also laws as to attorneys that can help you.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So what you’ll find is.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: whatever your scenario you come across, and if you able to think about the disruptive method you’ll be able to find the items to line up
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: to literally on every case.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Get you more money.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: It’s going to be the rarity that you can’t, and the general rule you will.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: How is that for profiting more?
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: A lot.
Gloria Hall: Okay.
Gloria Hall: disruptive method. That’s very interesting.
Gloria Hall: Michael. How can chiropractic offices level up their negotiation skills.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Thing I mean. Well, that’s exactly what we’re talking about, I mean, I think.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Let’s go back to the 4 things which I said, were problems. So let’s do the reverse.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: One is get the right mindset right? So get the mindset. Realizing I do have control of my bill.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: In most States. The patient owes the bill, regardless of the outcome of the case. Now, not every State, like a State like Missouri, for example, has laws that limits that.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and you know you might have where, because of your modified comparative negligence, if your patient was more at fault, they’re not getting any pi recovery.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: But again, the patient still owes those bills.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: You just have to get a mindset of being that you’re in control.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: The next is be open to learning
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and not just learning, but about taking action.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So when you have like
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: that, say the trainings, I do get trained somewhere. I’m just not aware of training and dealing with difficult attorneys or situations that exist out there other than what what I offer. But whatever you can, and to bring more of value to attorneys. Those are out there.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Do those get strained up and then hits the third. Area!
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Train up your staff.
Gloria Hall: Right.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Get them involved, it will free up your time and then get that process
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: that you can apply whatever that is. So it could be a repeatable
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: process that’s more efficient and effective that anybody in your office can do you your Staffer, and if your Staffer changes they can do it.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: That matters.
Gloria Hall: So you mentioned negotiations, Akito training. So what will be covered?
Gloria Hall: Ape.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Thanks for covering that. Yeah, we’ve got on. You’ll find us coming up this April, April the nineteenth, and twentieth. So less than a month away.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Got a day and a half training.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: It’s virtual.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: It’s if you can’t make some part of it. It’s recorded.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: It’s we’re doing where there’s a 2 for one. So when you come, because I believe in staffers that you actually can bring that Staffer on for getting on with you. And then we guarantee a 2.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So all of this here is about to help to level up your negotiation skills through that day and a half. It’s a half day of a Friday. It’s a full day on Saturday, and you’re going to come out on fire.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: The first half day will be about the disruptive method. And Iketo and about personal injury. So we’re going to give you a really great foundation. And the learning that really is involved, and it’ll be interactive. This is a virtual training workshop.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So we’re going to have it where you go into like little breakout groups to talk about things as well online, virtually
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: to do that
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: the second full day we’re going to get into a lot of specifics.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: How many of you have dealing in, say, Med pay states where the attorneys.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Hold on to your Med patient on your bill, and they want to take attorney’s fees out of it.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: We’ll cover that.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: How about where you get those low ball offers.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and you want to turn them into high profit results. We’re going to cover that.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: How about you sacrificed a lot for an attorney, a law firm.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and yet they’re asking for you to take more hips. How do you address that situation?
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: We’re going to cover that.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: In fact, when you do register, we’re going to be asking you to tell us
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: what are the problems you’re confronted with mostly, and you can even get on a hot seat for having
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: a specific situation right now you’re undergoing or had. And let’s talk about it to share, because everybody can learn.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So that’s meant to be incredibly interactive. It’s going to be fun energetic.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: And I’ll tell you this, when you come out of that
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: you’ll be profiting
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: on your pi matters the very next day.
Gloria Hall: So do you offer guarantees for those to register.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Yes, as I said,
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: it’s satisfaction guaranteed to your money back. We saw.
Gloria Hall: Believe.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: My team and I in the power of this and our business advantage. Members do it every day.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: This works
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: sometimes it’s hard. I know that we get. There’s a lot of
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: false things that are out there.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: This isn’t false.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: This is truth.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: In fact, sometimes I’m more truthful about the bad and ugly guys everyone wants to do how beautiful everything is out there. That’s not me.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: And I will say this, if you are a medical provider that does things wrong. If you puff up your bills. If you overtreat over Bill, this is not for you.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: I don’t want you to register unless you’re willing to be open to listen to. Then change how you do it, to do it in a better way, so that you can see when you do.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: You’re going to be able to get profit that way and do great.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So it’s not only guaranteed, you know, it’s something which I put my reputation online for it. And I’ve got members that will attest to how great this has worked for them.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: whether they are brand new in the program or they’ve been on for a long time.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and it’s not just by the way, about
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: out. Negotiate an attorney. When you’ve got an offer.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: I want you to realize there are things that you can do in your processes
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: which are which I’m going to hit that second day as well for a portion of it, because I think processes are so important.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: When you do certain things right
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: before you ever get an offer.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: you are so much better positioned and protected
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: to have that payment come to you and not lose out on revenues that are right there on the table for you.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: That it’s going to really matter.
Gloria Hall: So can you tell us how much the virtual training workshop costs.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Absolutely. And so you all know. If you’re listening, this recording, and it’s after that date, I want you to know that we’re that there are going to be other dates that we have, that this the trainings we kind of do all year long. They’ll be different as we do them in different components and different scenarios, so those that come on one will continue to benefit as they continue to come. I hope the people come to every negotio training.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: That’s a much more value you’ll get each time that you come, and you’ll learn it more each time continuing to work on it like mastering any skill like a black belt, you start out lower and you get elevated on what you do.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So the overall training, which, by the way, for a day and a half training of this is in the thousands of dollars. But we made this as a $979 day and a half training, which is an awesome value when just one matter
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: will get that paid when you get paid more. Just one patient pi matter.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: But for your audience for your members. I want to do something extra special.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: We’re not for those that act right away, limited number of seats.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and do this right. Now.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: if you put in, go to the website negotiations, aikido.com.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and you put in the code CE.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: 24
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: CE. 24.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: That will get you a 30% discount or sorry. Sorry. $300 off.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: There’s 9, 79,
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: so your price will only be $679
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: again. One matter, I think. What’s that? Like? 11 adjustments? It’s like nothing.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: And again, since I guarantee it, what the heck do you have to lose
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: that you’ve got everything to gain. But to get that.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: you’ve got to act right now. Got to get on that site.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: sign up
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: register, and then watch the magic.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: learn, apply, improve, and profit.
Gloria Hall: Okay? So to repeat at negotiations, aiketo.com
Gloria Hall: sign up. Now the code is Ce. Is it 2024.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Ce. 24. But actually, I think we’re gonna have it where you could put in 2,024 or 24 either way. We’ll work.
Gloria Hall: For sign up now limited seats available negotiations. Akitocom.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Yes, and don’t forget, by the way, that again, I’m gonna repeat that as a 2, for you know, 2 for one with that. So I really want to. I mean, you can see how much it means to me to up level your staff.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: They are the ones that have to really be at the forefront and deal with the law firms. And they’ve got to be able to get the confidence and feel okay, or the stress level just goes through the roof for them.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Your job as an owner
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: must be to protect your staff.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Your job should also be to give them support, and the tools they have to be successful.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: You’re a great treater. You’ll be teaching your Caas exactly how to do great on getting those patients healthy.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: but you need them to have additional business support. So when they’ve got questions here, they can come here and ask them on that to get help, and I hope, by the way, that those when you’re on that you also consider maybe even joining our business advantage program, which is something else, because that’s really how to help everybody on a longer term basis from all the areas of processes, profits, and growth.
Gloria Hall: Okay.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: But again, let’s focus on
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: getting paid more from the difficult attorneys. And that’s what we’re here for today.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Bright.
Gloria Hall: I want to remind attendees. If you have questions for Michael, please put those in the QA. Not in the chat
Gloria Hall: in the Q. And a. And Michael, before we go to the Q. And a. Did you have any final thoughts.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: I would remind you about. I mean, if you’re on here, you’re either
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: you’ve either got a personal injury segment.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Maybe you’ve got a large one. Got a large one. That means you’ve got a large accounts receivable.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Think of what that means right away to your profits with all that outstanding AR. Maybe it’s 50,000. 100,000. Maybe you’ve got a million, and I know chiropractors that have well, over a million dollars in an outstanding AR, and what this would mean to them.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Maybe you’ve got a smaller set AR smaller submit of your practice, that does it.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: But what would an extra
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: 10,000 20,000 30,000 mean for your year in your practice.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Or maybe you’re thinking about, how do I get started in personal injury?
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: I just want to take advantage of this, because a pi is the number one segment for chiropractic. Why are you not having one?
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So I want to encourage you to get it, because also, by the way, those injury patients
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: get healed at some point.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: what should they then be coming for you? The chiropractor
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: wellness, care patients.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Injury and wellness care, feed off each other.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: I if someone says, Michael, you want me to have a hundred percent pi practice, and I say, no.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: a balance practice
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: both personal injury and also the wellness care because they feed off each other so very well.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: And
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: so I think I you’re a great treater.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Just realize you’ve got to put that other business hat on, too. And unfortunately, in our age of
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: continuing education.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: they give ce
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: for
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: how it could better treat patients or protecting the consumers, but not how to be a better business person.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: You’ve got to do more. You’ve got to invest
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: on the business side of your practice, and I can’t think of a greater investment.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: I mean literally, for chiropractic
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: than personal injury
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: pays the most
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: great gateway medical collaboration to bring also more business from peers.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: There it checks off every box.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: You just have to have the patience.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and to be willing to be open to learning, and to apply the learning and the tools.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So again, but I’ll make that last call out.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: go to negotiate zikito.com.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: or you go to our company website. Personal injury made easy.com.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: And then you’ll get to our Aikido website and put in the Code CE. 24.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Take advantage of of that discount. Get on, get in and get improved.
Gloria Hall: Do it now they’re limited seats. So go on and and put that code in
Gloria Hall: right. I have some questions
Gloria Hall: from the attendees. First question.
Gloria Hall: I’m having more and more attorneys threaten me with something called inter pleater. That, they say will slash my bill if I don’t accept their offer. Is that true?
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: You know, interleater is thrown out by a lot of attorneys and law firms. But do you, if they were truthful to you. If you asked, how many have they done?
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: 95% will say 0,
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: not one.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: It’s a threat they use.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Most of them don’t even know how interpleer works.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So a short answer is, inter pleater is a separate complaint that an attorney files, and you know who they name is a defendant in it.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Their own client, your patient.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: along with you or the providers, is to protect the law firm.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: They actually do that.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Monies get deposited in the with the court.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Everybody answers, they wipe their hands, they leave, and the court decides.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Here’s the thing they don’t tell you
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: when Andre Pleader is done properly.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: It’s not a full and final satisfaction of the bill.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Whatever a card gives you, the patient still owes the balance after
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: in most states. Okay.
Gloria Hall: So.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: There’s it gets very deep on that. And interplaneters is used often as some threat. But again, it’s
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: giving a reason why you need to learn what you don’t know, and as part of that disruptive method where you not only find what’s the real issue, but when you’re covering the facts, and you’re knowing how to inject the law and the facts that apply.
Gloria Hall: Alright. I have another question.
Gloria Hall: I can’t get the attorney to tell me even how much they got in settlement yet they want me to pay. They want to pay me a fraction of my bill. What can I do?
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: You know, here’s that even
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: worse one that some of you have gotten. Have you ever gotten
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: in the mail?
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: A check?
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So let’s say, 20% of your bill.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: And it says, and on the letter from the attorney.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: this will confirm our agreement that you will accept that you’ve accepted X as full and final satisfaction.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and you never spoke with them.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: See it all the time, and then, full and final satisfaction on the check.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: They’re hoping that you just deposit it.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and then they get what’s called an accord and satisfaction.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: But what you can use when you have them doing and doing these lowball offers is realize.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Again, applying disruptive method. One of the ways is, you can utilize statebar ethics, rules to help you
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: so moats. Every State has a form of what’s the American Bar Association just like for chiropractic. You’ve got a national guideline
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: for Chiropractic Ethics. So does the law.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: The Aba has a rule called rule 1.1 5.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Most every State has a vert well, every State does have a version of 1.1 5 in one form or another.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Some, literally, it is the same rule, 1.1 5, some. It’s a different rule, but the components are the same.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and one of them is.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: it’ll say that the law firm shall provide a full accounting upon request of a third party, with an interest in in the proceeds.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: And that’s you.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: It’s meant for the medical provider.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So you identify and recite back to them
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: for your State that that law, firm ethics code.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: they’ve got actually a legal ethical obligation to tell you.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and when they still say No.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: there are ways to get around that I’m going to cover that in negotiations, Aikido, that specific scenario, I’ll make sure is on there, because I think it’s a really important one that even when you use certain things, what do you do when that doesn’t work right, and you go kind of down the resolution tree.
Gloria Hall: Night.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Thank you. That was a great question.
Gloria Hall: Next question. I’ve lost a lot with some law firms who always need big reductions, yet keep promising to send me more patience and pay me more, but never do.
Gloria Hall: What do you recommend.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Well, how about how about this one? Isn’t. The worst thing is, when attorneys, you know, you got that very first matter, and you’re thinking, Oh, my God, I’m going to do great with this attorney.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and they come in and they want to pay you just that 20% on your Bill.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and you’re going. What? The heck just happened, they say. Oh, that just happened here. Believe me, I’m going to send you a bunch more cake bunch more matters you’re going to do really great on those.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Yeah, right?
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: You know, I’ve unfortunately seen some providers. They’ve gotten flooded
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: with matters from a firm.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: It’s not the single attorney with a single matter. That is your biggest danger. You could absorb the one bill.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: It’s the one who just floods you with matters.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: There was one provider that had over a hundred 70 matters with a single law firm still open.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: First handful, when they were getting resolved, was less than 20% of his bill
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: went white.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: It’s going to close down his practice, if that’s the rest of it, he can’t afford to do that.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Fortunately
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: applying these methods
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: that went from only getting offered 20% to being, in fact, paid 80 to 100% on all the rest.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Now he’s expanding and tripling the size of his practice.
Gloria Hall: My goodness.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: This stuff
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: works people.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: you know my apologies. I forgot the specific question as I went in there, and I want to make sure I address to that person. Can you ask it one more time.
Gloria Hall: Sure
Gloria Hall: I’ve lost a lot with some law firms who always need big.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: I got it I got it. So let’s say you’ve been sacrificing with this law firm. There are ways, in fact, I’ll make sure I make this promise to you also on Iketo. We’ll go over this.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: which is where you sacrifice to help a law firm.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and they want you to keep doing it. There’s a method to utilize past losses
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and part of the disruptive method in using Aikido
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: to have them change that completely around, and to start paying you better now and going forward.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Most attorneys want you to think that you have to do it one case at a time.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and that’s not true, and we’ll cover a couple different scenarios in that. But it’s a really good question.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and you’ve got to realize attorneys want you to approach this one way
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: you need to take control of the negotiations
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: without them realizing it. You can do that.
Gloria Hall: Thank you, Michael. Next question. I’m in Florida, and my average bill size is between 10 and $15,000, and I get a lot from Pip. But now attorneys aren’t even signing lops.
Gloria Hall: How should I handle that.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Florida has.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Florida’s had some big changes. I’ve been. I’ve gone out there and spoken around the State for Chiropractic for the Fca. I’ve been at the Pain Physician Conferences speaking there
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and and talked about the 2,023 Tort Reform Act.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: There’s been a lot of changes, and but maybe you’re in another State which has also had legal changes. Arizona. And added mandated negotiations. So others are looking to add new things. But in Florida
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: you’ve had, because the new law you’ve had a lot of law firms saying I’m not going to sign Ahps
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: because the new law allowed the attorneys on the defense to get into the relationship between you and the law firm.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: They’re going. Oh, no, they’re gonna know.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Well, they’re using that kind of as a smokescreen.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Few cases go to trial. And unless you’ve done a lot of matters with the law firm, it just doesn’t matter.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: It’s not gonna have any impact.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: so the problem that a lot of attorneys will do is find something to latch onto to their advantage. And when they don’t issue a letter of protection. That means they’ve got no legal obligation
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: that you can hold them to.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Now there are bigger issues and bigger issues in that.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Then the attorneys would want you to believe. So. There are ways hopefully around that. And one of the suggestions I have to you and to someone in every letter Protection State.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: You make sure that the patient
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: signs a full-on medical lean agreement, the same contractual lean that I created over 10 years ago around the country for the lean States. Also, you want that broader coverage the patient is bound to, because that can serve as a basis and leverage
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: with the attorneys even they didn’t sign anything.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: because if they messed up.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: cause their client your patient to now have to owe more.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: That means their client. Your patient actually has some rights as to their own law firm.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and you can use that as leverage to still get paid.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: It’s a very complicated area, but there are definitely things you can do to assist in letter of protection states in Florida and around. So I encourage you to attend the training as we get a little bit more deeper in some of that.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Okay.
Gloria Hall: So I know you’re covering negotiation with attorneys. But how can I do things from the beginning that improves my ability to get paid.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Well, good point, I mean like when I say you know, and I talk about negotiating, and I even talk about say this more comprehensive lean that I doubled, which probably you weren’t using because you’ve never even heard about it. You didn’t know it was out there.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: You want to find out the processes that help you with the good attorneys. So where you could become the go-to value driver.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So when you learn the right processes.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: you become a value driver for a pi case. Some of that might be
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: how you support your billing structure and your full bills.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and being able to to compile that and get it to the attorney who could deal with the adjuster while the case is going on
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: to get higher settlements. Wow! Now you become someone they want to use more.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: or how you document. And there’s a thing I teach in my business advantage program called storytelling documentation
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: is a pure value driver.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: It helps lesser attorneys be better.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: good attorneys to be great, and the great attorneys are just thankful.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: and you’re able to pick up on things that attorneys don’t see.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Here’s what you, the chiropractor, miss.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: that attorney sees their client
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: oftentimes
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: one time the first time they sign they sign them up as a client unless they go to trial or a deposition.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: maybe never again.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: You see them all the time.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: You’ve got a far better on the ground, knowing of the pain and suffering to relate.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: So when you learn about these processes and the right leaner litter protection to put.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: you’re a so much better positioned and protected to help the good attorneys be the value driver. Once someone else wants to pay less. Could it be a lot harder for them?
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: You got to learn that part, too. We’re going to cover some of that also. On day. 2
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: of negotiations, Aikido.
Gloria Hall: Okay, that’s the final question. But I wanna remind attendees, if you do have a last, I have a last call for QA. Negotiations. aikido.com. Put in the code Ce. 24, save that $300 limited seats for the training in April, and there will be additional trainings after April for them to look for
Gloria Hall: wrecked.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Yep, absolutely. So. There’s a way to continue like mastery of anything. Takes time.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: All I can tell you is right away. You’ll make more money
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: immediately. If you got outstanding AR of any size, even. Look one case, you’ll do better.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: but as you get going you will improve. I’ll give you an example we had. There’s one, a 3
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: office practitioner.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: Now, I’m going to relate to the program, because then they were able to put the better process also in. But for the
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: 3 years running before learning all these methods.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: they averaged 52% of their bills across all their pi.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: which, by the way, that’s really good for a lot of practices.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: By the end of the first year in the program
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: they were at 72%.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: By the end of the second
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: 80%,
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: combining all the good, bad, ugly attorneys, 80% out of 100% on all their bi bills.
Michael Coates, Esq | Personal Injury Made Easy: That’s just phenomenal. I call that the the provider 4 min Mile, and that’s what chiropractors in particular should be doing.
Gloria Hall: It’s incredible.
Gloria Hall: Michael. I want to take this time to thank you and your company. Personal injury made easy for your time today. It was a great webinar
