Wasdin, DC, a nationally known speaker, addressed a packed auditorium of students and faculty at Logan College of Chiropractic/University Programs at a July 13 assembly.

Wasdin served in the U.S Navy for 12 years and was a member of the Navy’s SEAL Team Six, an elite team of military personnel, before earning his doctor of chiropractic degree in 2009. He is owner of Absolute Precision Chiropractic in Jesup, Ga., and author of New York Times best-selling book SEAL Team Six: Memoirs of an Elite Navy Seal Sniper. After being seriously injured during the Battle of Mogadishu, Somalia, which inspired the book and movie Black Hawk Down, Wasdin was depressed and in severe pain. He said chiropractic gave him his life back, and today, he is dedicated to helping other live pain-free lives.

“I did SEAL Team Six out of love for my fellow man, and it’s the same reason I’m doing chiropractic,” he said. “After my third adjustment, I slept through the night for the first time in five years. The gift you will leave here (Logan) with is powerful.”

While the number of chiropractors over the years has increased, the number of patients has not. Wasdin said the percentage of people seeing chiropractors is between 7 and 10 percent — the same percentage that existed more than 100 years ago. Wasdin addressed the need to further advance public’s understanding of chiropractic as well as realize what is wrong in the chiropractic profession in order to fix it.

“The public is confused,” he said. “We need to come up with what is chiropractic and rally behind one thing. The number one problem facing chiropractic is communication. We have to educate people, and spend more energy on what we do.”

Jaron Banks, Tri-6 student and president of SACA, said he was excited to bring such a dynamic and inspiring speaker as Wasdin to the Logan community. “We received great feedback from the students and look forward to bring more speakers to Logan.”

“It was nice to present to a school that is furthering the profession of chiropractic,” Wasdin added.
