F4CP supports DEA national prescription drug take-back initiative

Chiropractic Economics September 1, 2017

August 30, 2017 – The Foundation for Chiropractic Progress (F4CP) urges consumers to learn the opportunities to dispose of unused Rx drugs for the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) National Take-Back Day. This call-to-action supports initiatives during September Drug-Free Pain Management Awareness Month and emphasizes the goals to advance public awareness of the value of drug-free chiropractic care.

“We can’t be more supportive of this DEA program which complements our campaign to educate and inform Americans that there are non-pharmacologic options such as chiropractic care to safely and effectively address patients’ spine and joint-related pain,” says Sherry McAllister, DC, executive vice president, F4CP. “Every day, over 1,000 people are treated in emergency departments for misusing prescription opioids.”

The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse and medications. The next Take Back Day is Saturday, October 28, 2017. To visit a collection site between Take Back Days, click here.

Honorary Chair of the F4CP campaign, General Rebecca Halstead, (ret.) says, “Given the fact that nearly half of all opioid overdose deaths involve a prescription opioid and 59,000 to 65,000 Americans died from opioid overdoses in 2016, this message is not only timely, but critical to the health and well-being of all Americans. We need to be persistent and relentless in delivering this message – there are safer alternatives than prescription drugs for managing pain.”
