D’Youville University to launch osteopathic medical school

Chiropractic Economics Staff February 2, 2026

D'Youville UniversityD’Youville University continues to make strong progress toward the launch of its College of Osteopathic Medicine (DYU-COM), with the inaugural Fall 2026 class already nearly two-thirds full and attracting applicants with academic credentials, including GPA and MCAT scores, that are exceeding initial expectations.

The early enrollment momentum highlights growing interest in Western New York’s first osteopathic medical school and strong confidence in D’Youville’s new program, noted a university press release. Applications for the inaugural class of 90 students remain open.

As academic planning advances, preparations are also underway for DYU-COM’s permanent home at 285 Delaware Avenue in downtown Buffalo. Renovation work on the 125,000-square-foot facility is scheduled to begin in early spring, transforming the building into a modern, state-of-the-art medical education environment designed to support innovative teaching, hands-on learning and collaboration. The overall scope and cost of the project remain unchanged, with financing structured to support the program’s early growth while keeping the project on schedule for students to occupy the building in Fall 2027.

The renovated space will feature advanced anatomy and simulation labs, technology-enabled classrooms and collaborative learning areas intentionally designed to mirror real-world healthcare settings. Its location places students minutes from major hospitals and clinical partners within Buffalo’s growing medical corridor.

DYU-COM received pre-accreditation earlier this year from the American Osteopathic Association’s Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation, allowing the University to begin enrolling students. The college will welcome its first class in Fall 2026, expand enrollment in subsequent years, and ultimately educate hundreds of future physicians committed to whole-person care, service and community health.
Instruction during the first year will take place on D’Youville’s main campus, followed by the transition to the fully renovated downtown facility in Fall 2027. Nearly 50 clinical affiliation agreements are already in place across Western New York, Upstate New York, and New York City to support clinical training.

Students interested in applying to the D’Youville University College of Osteopathic Medicine can learn more and begin the application process at dyu.edu/medicine.
