Cleveland University-Kansas City’s (CUKC) Radiologic Technology program was recently awarded an eight-year accreditation by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT).
JRCERT is the only accreditor for radiography programs, recognized by the US Department of Education. JRCERT oversees programs nationwide, including CUKC’s Associate of Applied Science in Radiologic Technology degree, a CUKC press release noted.
After being awarded an initial accreditation of three years in December 2022, the recent maximum eight-year accreditation signifies that CUKC’s Radiologic Technology program is of high quality and meets all JRCERT standards.
How CUKC’s radiologic technology program has grown
The program’s director, Jason Elliott, MHA, CRA, RT(R)(CT)(ARRT), was hired in 2016 to create the A.A.S. program and was the sole program administrator. Working with an advisory board, Elliott built the initial curriculum from the ground up and gained approval from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC) in 2017 to begin offering the two-year degree to prospective students. Its inaugural cohort of three students began coursework in March 2018, marking the official launch of the Radiologic Technology degree. Eight years after receiving initial approval from the HLC, the program now enrolls 36 students annually, selecting from a competitive pool of qualified candidates.
In that span, Elliott has expanded the program’s instructional team, adding a full-time clinical coordinator and full-time faculty member to instruct the majority of the courses, and maintains a highly qualified roster of adjunct instructors. The program has also enhanced its resources and technology available to students, including the recent installation of two state-of-the-art imaging machines.
By expanding relationships with local healthcare providers, the program now offers valuable clinical exposure in both pediatrics and imaging modalities. Through shared goals with local employers, CUKC has established clinical relationships with 20+ local healthcare facilities, including major hospitals, outpatient imaging centers, community hospitals and orthopedic clinics.
Upon program completion, CUKC Radiologic Technology students have achieved a five-year average first-attempt pass rate of 92% on the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists exam, along with a 100% job-placement rate within six months of graduation. Throughout clinical settings across the US, graduates are working in healthcare facilities, with some already stepping into clinical preceptor and leadership roles within their departments.
