Council on Chiropractic Education conducts training activities

Chiropractic Economics Staff February 10, 2013

February 10, 2013 — The Council on Chiropractic Education (CCE) has recently completed a multi-focused training program that involved new councilors, Doctor of Chiropractic Program (DCP) leaders, and Academy Site Team Visitors.

“The purpose of this training is to enable all of the people involved to become more effective in their particular roles and to improve the quality of the DCP graduates” said Craig Little, DC, council chair.

New councilor orientation/training: On Jan. 10, 2013, the CCE provided an initial orientation-training session for nine new councilors in preparation for their work in Semi-Annual and Annual Council meetings.

Experienced councilors assisted in the training by providing case examples and insights from a councilor’s perspective. Some of the highlights of this training included:

  1. CCE organizational chart review
  2. Overview of accreditation
  3. CCE schedule of accreditation activities
  4. Council processes, recognition, and organizations
  5. Parliamentary law and Roberts Rules
  6. Council meeting review and confidentiality
  7. USDE requirements
  8. Decision-Making Processes

Academy of Site Team Visitors training: On Dec. 1-2, 2012, the CCE provided training for 52 Academy members. Some of the highlights of this training included:

  1. Academy membership requirements and term of service
  2. The Academy of Site Team Visitors manual and accreditation manual
  3. Site team groups and areas of assignment within the 2012 Accreditation Standards
  4. CCE Accreditation Standards review/overview of requirements, context, and characteristics of evidence
  5. The requirements for accreditation including identifying which group is responsible for evaluating each section while conducting site visits
  6. Review of the CCE meta-competencies section
  7. Review of the admissions criteria
  8. Report writing and decision making while conducting site visits
  9. Site team best practices and lessons learned
  10. Site team evaluation processes
  11. Site team academy committee service reviews

Also on May 12-13, 2012, the CCE conducted an initial formal training session for 12 new Site Team Academy members who were selected from an application process that included 50 candidates. The training was very successful as a mix of new members from DCPs and private practitioners worked together to better understand the standards and the accreditation review process, and to write and edit mock reports.

DCP program training workshop: On Nov. 30, 2012, the CCE conducted a workshop for DCP leaders to help the colleges/programs better understand the new 2012 CCE Accreditation Standards and how they may be addressed through the self-study process and accreditation reviews.

Some of the topics covered in this workshop included:

  1. Self-study preparation
  2. The self-study report
  3. The accreditation manual and Academy of Site Team Visitors
  4. CCE Accreditation Standards review/overview of requirements, context, and characteristics of evidence
  5. The requirements for accreditation
  6. Review of the CCE meta-competencies
  7. Review of the admissions criteria

Training coordinators/leaders: CCE training activities are coordinated and led by Mr. Ray Bennett, CCE vice president for accreditation and pperations, and by Robert E. Percuoco, DC, chair of the Council Site Team Academy Committee, with support by Craig Little, DC, council chair and Tom Benberg, EdD, CCE president.

“Training is the key to quality decision making — consistent, fair, and helpful,” said Benberg. “I was happy to see that the post training/workshop evaluation surveys indicated that participants indicated a high level of satisfaction with the information conveyed as well as the level of engagement among the attendees. We plan to provide additional training/workshops in the November/December 2013 time frame for DCPs and Academy members.”
