CMCC and University of New Brunswick expand collaboration

The Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) and the University of New Brunswick (UNB) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) building on an existing academic pathway agreement.

The MOU, noted a CMCC press release, complements the articulation agreement first established in 2023, which provides qualified UNB students with the opportunity to complete a Bachelor of Kinesiology and a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) degree in seven years instead of the traditional eight. Through this pathway, students may fulfill components of the CMCC DC program while completing their undergraduate degree at UNB, a significant saving of tuition and offering an earlier career launch.

This newly signed MOU establishes a framework for the two institutions to explore future collaboration aimed at strengthening musculoskeletal (MSK) health education, research and care in New Brunswick and Atlantic Canada. Importantly, this partnership creates a foundation for CMCC to support UNB’s Building Healthy Communities strategic framework, which focuses on increasing health education in the province to address healthcare worker shortages. Areas of potential cooperation may include academic delivery, clinical education and experiential learning, interprofessional practice and joint research initiatives.

“We are pleased to strengthen our relationship with the University of New Brunswick through this Memorandum of Understanding,” said Christine Bradaric-Baus, PhD, President of CMCC. “We are excited to explore opportunities for working together to support their healthy communities agenda and the development of a strong, sustainable musculoskeletal health workforce in New Brunswick.”

“This MOU reflects UNB’s commitment to collaboration that supports student success, innovation and community impact,” said Paul J. Mazerolle, PhD, President and vice chancellor of UNB. “By partnering with CMCC, an international leader in chiropractic education, we are exploring opportunities to expand educational pathways, and advance research and clinical initiatives that contribute to improved musculoskeletal health and access to care across Atlantic Canada.”

“This agreement creates an important framework for collaboration, the lynchpin to CMCC’s new strategic plan,” said Kevyn Kristmanson, DC. chair of the CMCC Board of Directors. “By working together, CMCC and UNB can explore meaningful ways to support students, advance research and strengthen musculoskeletal health capacity in the region.”
