Add in another 5 percent of people who make working out at the gym their top resolution, and more than a quarter of people have some sort of fitness or weight loss goals as their New Year’s resolution.

Fifty-three students from around the world received the doctor of chiropractic degree from Sherman College of Chiropractic in Spartanburg, SC, on Saturday, December 17, 2016. The commencement was a shared ceremony for December 2016 and March 2017 graduates. Tan Lay Lay Tracy of Singapore, recipient of the Milton W. Garfunkel Award for the December class, and Brianna Lynn Boliver of New York, recipient for the March class, presented farewell addresses to their classmates.

According to the U.S. Public Health Service, January is National Healthy Weight Awareness Month. This seems pretty fitting since Statistic Brain reports that the number one resolution being made on January 1 is to lose some extra weight. Based on this statistic alone, it’s clear that having an oversized waistline is on the minds of a large percentage of the population on the first day of each new year. This isn’t without good reason. Being a healthcare professional, there are many things you can do to help your patients achieve and maintain a healthy weight, thus avoiding the negative effects of carrying excessive fat.
