February 16, 2009 — Four Cleveland Chiropractic College-Kansas City (CCCKC) student interns recently participated in the “Hip Hop Health Fair,” at West Middle School in Kansas City. Interns Darcy Maier, Tracey Smith, Jill Strom, and Nick Weddle, accompanied by Linda Gerdes, community outreach representative, made the trip to share information about chiropractic and to stress the importance of proper spine health.
Gerdes said the venue was a great place for the interns to interact with young people and helped them hone their presentation and marketing skills.
Gerdes went on to explain that participating in health fairs and other similar events instills a sense of altruism in the interns which will encourage them to give back to the community when they open their own practices.
“The students really opened up to our interns and shared information about some of the symptoms they were experiencing,” Gerdes said. “A number of the students were suffering everything from cluster headaches to constant back pain. The interns did a great job explaining how chiropractic care can help with these symptoms while also promoting the chiropractic profession and the College.”
Gerdes was impressed that the interns conducted themselves as seasoned professionals despite this being their first health fair event.
