Thinking globally, acting locally: Chiropractic on sports’ biggest stage

Chiropractic Economics August 5, 2012

August 5, 2012 — More than 2.1 million people attended the London Olympic Games in its first three days. On day four, another 37 million Americans tuned into the games. And more than ever before, these spectators were witnessing world-class athletes benefitting from the efforts of hundreds of chiropractors from all over the globe.

Maximized Living doctors serve as team chiropractors for Team USA Judo, Sitting Volleyball, Weightlifting, and Wrestling. Maximized Living is a nationwide organization created to give people of all ages, backgrounds, and athletic abilities the power to take control of their health. In addition to administering specific spinal correction, these doctors coach both everyday patients and Team USA representatives to better nutrition, non-cleanse detoxification, and high-intensity fitness programs.

So far in competition, Team USA Judo athlete and Maximized Living patient Marti Malloy has earned a bronze medal for her efforts in the 57kg women’s class. Her teammate and fellow Maximized Living patient Kayla Harrison won the gold medal. Harrison won the gold at the 2010 World Judo Championship and is currently ranked No. 2 in the world in the 78 kg weight class.

Other members of Team USA are enjoying the benefits of team chiropractors as well. Two doctors of chiropractic are currently members of the Advisory Board for the USA Gymnastics Wellness Program.

USA Track and Field has lists two doctors of chiropractic on their medical staff, and women’s indoor volleyball features a team chiropractor as well.

Across the pond, three athletes for Team Great Britain are also factoring spinal care into their training routines.

Even the Super Bowl champion New York Giants were seen utilizing the services of a chiropractor during the playoffs last season.

Chiropractic care begins in local communities, but can truly help the people everywhere avoid injury, overcome illness and fight disease. Maximized Living combines specific spinal correction with common-sense, lifestyle-improving factors, and their care has been changing patients’ lives for the better.
