Bio-Kinetics Health System founder Dr. Lawrence E. Newsum passes away

Chiropractic Economics September 15, 2012

about_newsumSeptember 15, 2012 — Lawrence E. Newsum, DC, world traveler, innovator, patent holder, and founder of Newsum Bio-Kinetics Health Restoration Seminars, Bio-Kinetics Health Systems, and the New-Stim Stimulator, has passed away. A celebration of his life will take place in Long Beach, Calif. Sept. 29, 2012.

Newsum was born in Ft. Dodge, Iowa; enlisted in the U.S. Army at 18 years of age and was selected for the Honor Guard, stationed in Washington, D.C. He also served in Japan and Korea during the Korean War.

A graduate of Tobin Business College and Palmer Chiropractic College, he belonged to numerous service clubs, served on the California Legislative Chiropractic Advisory Board, and was a former president of the Lomita Chamber of Commerce. He was an active chiropractor for 56 years, having lived in Iowa and Washington, he settled in California in 1961.

In his local community, Lomita, where he practiced for more than 50 years, he was known as the chiropractors’ chiropractor because others sent him their cases when they couldn’t help they knew he always achieved resolution.

After graduating from Palmer in 1956, Newsum, in an effort to become the best at his craft, studied many chiropractic procedures including: HIO, DNFT, Toftness, Gonstead, Logan Basic, Chrane Condial Lift. and others.

He questioned the chiropractic model of 80-10-10 from the time he was a young man in practice. He was dedicated to helping everyone and would say, “I am a researcher. I search and I search, and I search again, for a way to help everyone.”

His significant discoveries began in the early 1970s, finding that scars, old sprains, strains, fractures, sites of surgery, places of injections and more are all points of negative affects to the physical body and must be cleared to allow the body to function maximally. In the early 1990s, he discovered previously unknown specific contact sites, and when they were stimulated in a specific line of drive, with a small mechanical instrument, would reset the brain, normalize neural pathways, expedite plasticity and healing, and restore function, regardless if the causation of malfunction and distress was physical, mental, emotional, chemical, environmental, or electromagnetic in origin.

This being the case, he taught several colleagues who verified, they too were seeing profound results with every case through his method, validating the significance of his discoveries. He began teaching healthcare professionals his health system in 1995.

Newsum’s legacy; his development and discoveries that became the Bio-Kinetics Health System, his body of work, and training paradigm continue with the seminars taught by his wife and co-founder, Michele Newsum, MMS, Donald Baune, DC, DACNB, and Dennis Pick, DC. His legacy and light live on through the continuing efficacy of Newsum Bio- Kinetics delivered world-wide by trained practitioners, and through those recipients whose daily living has been enhanced through this care and lifestyle.

Newsum lived on the Palos Verdes Peninsula for 40 years and loved the natural environment and beauty of the hills and ocean there. Benches are being constructed and placed in the George F. Canyon Nature Preserve and Trail near his home, and a celebration light (lantern) is being placed in his honor and memory in the garden at the famed Wayfarer’s Chapel, also known as The Glass Church on the Palos Verdes Peninsula.

The lights and chapel were designed by Lloyd Wright, son of architect Frank Lloyd Wright and are made of copper. They achieve a beautiful patina over the seasons, reminiscent of Newsum’s lasting wisdom and love for humanity. When many think of retiring, Newsum at the age of 65 brought Newsum Bio-Kinetics forth to serve the world community and continued serving patients and training doctors up to the time of his death, at the age of 82. These memorial installations serve a functional purpose in serving people for a long time and that was his style.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made toward the above memorial

installations, addressed to: Michele Newsum, Newsum Bio-Kinetics Health Restoration, P.O. Box 1237, Lomita, CA 90717. Alternately, or in tandem donations may be made to the Salvation Army in his name, an organization he supported since a teen.

He is survived by his wife, six children, 13 grandchildren, one great grandson, his brother, nieces, and nephews, and a wealth of friends around the globe. Newsum had a curious mind, intuitive nature, selfless manner and tenacious spirit. He was one of a kind and will be deeply missed.
