Tennessee clinic presents $10K to nonprofits for ‘The Give Back Movement’

Three area nonprofits benefited when May Family Chiropractic in Morristown, Tenn., awarded a total of $10,000 to Food on Foot Tennessee Foundation, Morristown-Hamblen Central Services and the Ministerial Association Temporary Shelter (MATS).

“We donate our new patients’ first-day fees back to local charity, also known as ‘The Give Back Movement,’ pun intended,” Natalie May told the Citizen Tribune regarding the national chiropractic awareness program. “We love to help organizations that help children or are able to have an impact in getting people back on their feet.”
May says her practice looks to the neediest in the community to support.

“We look at mainly helping children,” she said. “Those are our favorites because they’re the rising generation. We want to help support them and set them up for success.”

Morristown-Hamblen Central Services encompasses numerous programs, while Tennessee Food on Foot was founded as a Christian-based nonprofit organization, and MATS is an area shelter for families and individuals.

 

Nevada clinic celebrates Founder’s Day, National Chiropractic Health Month with $3,785 donation to Reno’s Casa de Vida

Family First Chiropractic in Sparks, Nev., celebrated National Chiropractic Founder’s Day by hosting their annual patient appreciation event and fundraiser, and weeks later, in celebration of National Chiropractic Health Month, presented local nonprofit Casa de Vida with a donation of $3,785.50.

Casa de Vida supports pregnant young women during difficult times with a safe home, caring staff, 24-hour supervision and assistance, nutritious meals, pregnancy and childbirth education, social service assistance and more to build healthy families.

The donation was the result of proceeds from the event’s food truck ticket sales, silent auction and individual and business contributions.

“At Family First Chiropractic, we’re dedicated to serving our Northern Nevada community, and believe it’s important — now more than ever — to support organizations and causes that help us all live our best, healthiest lives,” said Rick Swecker, DC and practice owner. “It is important to us to continue to bring awareness to the value of preventative health care for families and children of all ages.”

 

Florida DC picks up trash, donates to Clean Beach Miami

Amir Mohit-Kermani, DC, has watched as litter has taken over the tourist destination spots of Miami beaches, and in November took matters into his own hands by picking up litter with the organization Clean Miami Beach and donating to the nonprofit’s work.

Mohit-Kermani is the owner of Advanced Chiropractic and Medical Centers in North Miami Beach, Hollywood and Ft. Lauderdale, and joined 120 other volunteers in picking up trash off the beaches. The volunteers collected 500 pounds of trash, 300 plastic water bottles and approximately 1,000 cigarette butts in a three-block radius of Collins Park in Miami Beach.

Clean Miami Beach was launched in 2019 by Sophie Ringel, and the organization also teaches students with the Classroom on the Sand program about the necessity of eliminating park and beach pollution.

“Sadly, Miami Beach is becoming a destination known for litter and trash-filled beaches, and this needs to change,” Mohit-Kermani said. “I’m so happy that my donation to Clean Miami Beach helps Ms. Ringel realize her commitment to maintaining cleaner parks and beaches and also helps fund her program to teach our kids about the importance of doing so. Each of us should do our part to contribute — from volunteering time or by giving a small donation whenever they can.”

 

Planet Chiropractic offers enlisted military, veterans free exams and care

Special recognition and care were given to veterans, enlisted military members and their immediate families in the Lemont, Ill., area for a month when Stoetzel’s Planet Chiropractic offered free exams and care in November.

“It takes a special kind of individual to enlist in the military,” Paul Stoetzel, DC, told Patch.com. “These men and women and their families sacrifice so much in their service to our country — to preserve the freedoms we enjoy daily. They deserve special recognition and special care … It’s our way of saying ‘Thank you for your service. Now how can we be of service to you?’ We want to honor our veterans and offer care and support to area military personnel and their families.”

The offer included free consultations, free exams and free adjustments.

“We want them to learn how to keep their bodies functioning at their highest, healthiest potential and to teach them how to maintain optimal health,” Stoetzel said.

 

Virginia chiropractor turns personal cancer battle into holiday joy for children

Holly Welty-Miller, DC, is used to providing care and pain relief for patients, but that changed roughly two years ago when she was diagnosed with cancer and found herself on the receiving end of stressful cancer treatments.

The doctor at Foothills Chiropractic Clinic in Pulaski, Va., has worked through her cancer treatments, and when she searched for a way to give back to cancer patients and their families, the answer came from a patient.

“Personally, I know the toll that cancer takes on a family, and over the last six months, I have prayed that God would guide me in a direction to help,” she told the Roanoke Times. “One of my patients suggested a toy drive for hospitalized children to ease the financial burden that comes this time of year, allowing families to focus on their children’s care. That was a perfect fit.”

With the help of patient donations heading into the holiday season, prior to Christmas she and volunteers dropped off a trailer of donated toys for Carilion Children’s Hospital in Roanoke.

“I am absolutely speechless and humbled by the response, support and generosity of our community,” Welty-Miller said. “Each and every one of my patients stepped up and made this Christmas wish a success.”

The 22-year resident says the community love goes both ways.

“I love the New River Valley,” she said. “Over the years I have received more love and support than I could ever repay.”

 

Iowa chiropractor makes $12,000 donation to Humane Society of North Iowa through ‘Give Back Movement’

Pets and animals are a great love at Haas Chiropractic Clinic in Mason City, Iowa, so when it came time to make a community contribution through the chiropractic “Give Back Movement,” animals were the choice of the staff and Rick Haas, DC, DIANM.

Through the Give Back Movement, patients new to Haas Chiropractic in 2021 received a full exam and learned about the benefits of chiropractic care for a reduced fee, with the fee donated to the Humane Society of North Iowa (HSNI).

“Haas Chiropractic is proud to be a part of the Give Back Movement program,” Haas told KIOW. “And since every employee at our clinic, including myself, has pets and loves animals, it was an obvious choice to direct our donation to the Humane Society of North Iowa.”

The donation was put toward the HSNI’s Miracle Fund, named for a puppy found huddled with her mother in a corn field. Both dogs had been shot and left for dead, but the puppy survived after emergency surgery and extensive care. The puppy, later named Miracle, went on to live a long and healthy life.

“We are beyond grateful to Haas Chiropractic for this incredible donation,” said Humane Society of North Iowa Executive Director Sybil Soukup. “It will allow us to save the lives of animals that are suffering ailments or injuries that are treatable with medical care. This donation will allow many animals to live long, healthy lives.”
