Northeast College of Health Sciences hosted a complimentary Massage Therapy Clinic Day for teachers from the Seneca Falls, Geneva and Waterloo school districts at its Seneca Falls campus on Nov. 23.
As part of the college’s Compassion in Action outreach program, massage therapy students provided one-hour, full-table massages at no cost to participating educators, a Northeast press release noted.
Northeast’s massage therapy program director, Nicole Miller, emphasized the importance of community partnerships. “We are proud to offer opportunities that support the well-being of our local educators while enriching the hands-on learning of our massage therapy students,” she said.
Creating community connections
“Events like this highlight the value of massage therapy while strengthening our ties to the region and our community members,” said Northeast College President Michael Mestan, DC, EdD. “We appreciate the community’s support of Northeast College’s massage therapy program. It has quickly surpassed even our greatest hopes, being recognized as number one in the Northeast region and number six in the country in just our first year.”
These special events connect the college with the community and also provide students with practical experience working with a wide range of techniques and interacting with a variety of clients. Students combine trusted classroom instruction with immersive, real-world practice as they prepare for successful careers as licensed massage therapists.
“Many of my clients are teachers. I understand the stress they face, and this is a meaningful way to give back,” noted Connie Hodde, the college’s clinical coordinator and a Seneca Falls resident.
Community-focused care
Northeast College remains committed to offering meaningful experiential learning opportunities that prepare massage therapy students for real-world practice and future employment. While the college receives many outreach requests, participation depends on factors such as student availability, program capacity and community need. The college prioritizes events that maximize student learning and support community members who may face barriers to accessing massage therapy, ensuring its outreach has the greatest educational and community impact.
