Vagus nerve stimulation, low level laser therapy, and nutrition and diagnostic testing were among the hottest technology topics in 2022 among chiropractors, helping DCs provide another level of pain relief and whole-body care and healing.

“Digital laser foot scan, digital X-ray, MRI, cold laser therapy and spinal decompression — these are the technologies and new chiropractic diagnostic tests that will help any chiropractor become a better diagnostician and healer,” writes Tim Maggs, DC. “When you do an examination that provides visual evidence on a patient, including a digital laser foot scan and standing digital X-rays, you have a much greater influence over appropriate decision-making by the patient.”

The Top 5 technology articles from the Chiropractic Economics website in 2022 also included spinal decompression and mobilization, with an eBook focusing on case studies, research and the latest tech, where “FDA indications for use include relief from the major causes of mechanical back pain including lumbar disc herniation (protrusion), disc bulge, degenerative disc disease, facet syndrome, radiating leg pain, low back pain and localized back pain.”

Here are the Top 5 technology articles from 2022:

5. Chiropractic and musculoskeletal impacts of nutrition testing

BY ROBERT G. SILVERMAN, DC, DACBN, DCBCN, MS, CCN, CNS, CSCS, CIISN, CKTP, CES, HKC, FAKTR
Improving gut health can go a long way toward also improving musculoskeletal problems. Adding a targeted protocol of daily supplements helps relieve musculoskeletal inflammation and reduces intervertebral disc degeneration … If your gut is healthy, your musculoskeletal system is healthy. As Confucius said, “A healthy man wants a thousand things; a sick man only wants one.”

4. eBook: Spinal Decompression & Mobilization

BY CE STAFF
The technology and wide range of evidence-based applications is commonly used as a primary musculoskeletal treatment intervention or as a co-treatment in combination with epidural injections, physical therapy, chiropractic, and medical manual therapy to affect spinal rehabilitation outcomes.

3. Chiropractic diagnostic tests and new-tech guidelines for the profession

BY TIM MAGGS, DC
I’ve lectured for years that the chiropractic scope of practice in every state is far broader than that of any other profession, both diagnostically and therapeutically. Many chiropractors who are practicing today, however, fall victim to the restrictions and guidelines of their academic teachings, insurance guidelines, and a totally miseducated public …

2. Webinar: Exploring the application and science of low level laser therapy

BY CE STAFF
Integrate concepts in laser photon therapy: wavelength, frequency, speed of light, fluence, penetration, secondary and primary physiological influences; contrast the differences between thermal and non-thermal laser therapy; develop the relationship between mitochondria, free radicals, ATP, cytochrome c oxidase enzyme, and laser photon therapy, and more.

1. Vagus nerve stimulation and tech to treat chronic health conditions

BY NAVAZ HABIB, DC
Stimulation to the auricular branch fibers on the ear only provides access to 1% of the vagus nerve fibers found in the cervical trunk. Some cervical trunk devices have even been shown to significantly improve cognitive performance under sleep deprivation stress, and are used by the U.S. Air Force for their pilots (McIntire, 2021).
