Chiropractic Economics Summer Buyers Guide: nutrition and gut health supplements

Chiropractic Economics July 6, 2021

American consumers want to individual choices when it comes to nutrition and the hot market of individual gut health supplements.

If there is one truth for American consumers, it is that they want to see themselves as individuals, and companies wanting their business should cater to their unique needs — and it’s no different when it comes to nutrition and the hot market of individual gut health supplements.

As a natural health and wellness provider, you are in a unique position to offer your patients advice on what to eat, what not to eat, and what vitamins and dietary supplements can affect their health.

Without your help making their choices, the sheer volume of available supplements can be mystifying to the average
patient. You can supply your patients with high-quality supplements and products that cannot be purchased
over the counter — and that come with your invaluable, personalized, expert advice.

Personalized nutritional guidance is looking to be one of the hottest new trends this year. The American Nutrition Association defines this term as “a field that leverages human individuality to drive nutrition strategies that prevent, manage, and treat disease and optimize health.” That definition can also mean big money — one analysis estimated that the global, personalized nutrition market could reach as much as $64 billion by 2040.

But the market is more than just supplements. An article from 2020 in Nature Medicine published the results from an ongoing study of metabolic responses, following eating identical meals, among a group of more than 1,002 subjects. Researchers found that differences between blood triglycerides, glucose, and insulin could vary by as much as ten-fold between individuals, leading them to hypothesize that the individual gut biome and gut health supplements may play a larger role in this variance than originally thought.

A 2017 article in the International Journal of Epidemiology examined the effect of personalized nutritional guidance on changes in dietary behavior — and the results suggested that personalized nutritional guidance leads to larger and more appropriate changes in dietary behavior.

It won’t be long before personalized nutritional guidance, including gut health supplements, will become a standard expectation for consumers — so make sure you are the one they know they can turn to for this guidance.
