5. Chiropractic Health Savings Account spending up 20%; proposal for expansion to include dietary supplements

An amendment included in the U.S. Senate’s budget resolution as part of the reconciliation process would expand health savings account spending options, health reimbursement arrangements and flexible spending accounts (FSA) to cover dietary supplements. The effort comes as evidence over the last year suggests a link between vitamin D deficiency and serious COVID-19 illnesses.

4. Modernization of Medicare coverage of chiropractic reintroduced this week in U.S. House

The Chiropractic Coverage Modernization Act (H.R. 2654), introduced by Rep. Brian Higgins (D-N.Y.), would increase Medicare coverage of services provided by doctors of chiropractic within the full extent of their state licensure, enabling chiropractic patients to conveniently and safely access additional covered services that may be medically necessary. The change would also align Medicare with chiropractic coverage offered in many private health and Medicare Advantage plans.

3. Canadian chiropractors, colleges battle over X-rays

The college ruled that radiography is only acceptable when a physical exam or patient history shows potential issues. A petition in the B.C. Supreme Court was filed on behalf of more than 12 chiropractors who are calling for a judge to overrule the college … The New York-based International Federation of Chiropractors and Organizations has circulated a petition against the college, supported by the Canadian National Alliance for Chiropractic.

1. Colorado allows chiropractors to give COVID-19 vaccine shots

Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, looking to speed-up the distribution of COVID-19 vaccinations in the state, has signed an executive order allowing health care professionals such as dentists, chiropractors and veterinarians to give vaccines to people “in hospital-like settings” where the state has already approved COVID-19 distribution … The emergency rules were part of an executive order applying to inpatient, outpatient, and hospital settings under certain delegations.
