Tokyo Olympics, chiropractic commercials postponed due to COVID-19 until 2021

Chiropractic Economics Staff March 30, 2020

The COVID-19 coronavirus has pushed back the start of the Tokyo Summer Olympics to 2021, including five chiropractic-promoting commercial placements that were scheduled to air. The Summer Games will now be held on July 23-Aug. 8, 2021.

The 30-second chiropractic commercials, funded by the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners (NBCE), the not-for-profit Foundation for Chiropractic Progress (F4CP) and other chiropractic industry supporters, are designed both inspire athletes and others to consider a career as a doctor of chiropractic (DC), as well as motivate consumers to seek chiropractic care for themselves and their family.

Complex Olympic re-arrangements

The Tokyo 2020 organizing committee on Monday said that the thousands of volunteers will be retained for next year, and that tickets remained valid but full refunds would be available.

“I am confident that, working together with the Tokyo 2020 organizing committee, the Tokyo metropolitan government, the Japanese government and all our stakeholders, we can master this unprecedented challenge,” Thomas Bach, the International Olympic Committee president, said in a statement on Monday.

Athletes, now with a set date, can arrange their personal training schedules even as gatherings for team sports and leagues are on hold due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The next challenge will be re-organizing the qualifying competitions for various sports. Athletes and teams that have already qualified will keep their spots for 2021.

Chiropractic commercials

The storyline for the chiropractic commercials will feature a past Olympic athlete discussing the challenges of competing against the world’s best and how chiropractic care enhanced their performance and competitive edge, resolved their injuries and ultimately inspired them to pursue a career in chiropractic.

F4CP Chairman and CEO of Foot Levelers, Kent S. Greenawalt, said, “For years, the foundation has dreamt of pursuing opportunities of this grandeur for the profession. The chance to create this commercial would not have been possible without the support of NBCE. We are going for the gold, and are pleased to showcase chiropractic care to the world during the highly-televised Summer Olympics.”
