The Body Code: Identify imbalances to help patients heal faster

Gloria Hall June 19, 2025

The Body CodeHolistic solutions to accelerate recovery

By Gloria N. Hall

Chiropractic Economics talked to veteran holistic physician and one of the world’s foremost experts on natural methods of achieving wellness, Bradley Nelson, DC, who shared his thoughts on his latest book, The Body CodeTM, and how it aligns with chiropractic care, why DCs should care about energy healing methods, the significance of the six hidden areas of imbalance, alternative solutions to help patients address the root causes of pain and more.

Q1. Tell us about your new book, The Body Code, and how it applies to chiropractic care.

In The Emotion Code®, I taught how trapped emotional energy can cause physical and emotional symptoms. The Body Code goes much further. It is a complete system that helps people find and correct the root causes of discomfort, illness and emotional imbalance by tapping into the subconscious mind. In chiropractic practice, this approach pairs beautifully with structural work. While DCs align the physical body, The Body Code addresses the energetic and emotional imbalances that often keep people from holding their adjustments or fully healing. Many of our practitioners have found that combining this method with their care not only helps patients heal faster but grows their practices through word-of-mouth from grateful clients.

  1. You say emotional trauma is at the root of most discomfort and illness. How can DCs apply this in their practices?

During my years in practice, I saw time and again the underlying cause of many physical complaints wasn’t just structural; it was emotional. When someone’s back pain kept coming back despite repeated adjustments, I often found trapped emotions at the core. DCs can use this understanding to go deeper. By helping patients release emotional baggage, especially from around the heart, they can facilitate more complete and lasting healing. Incorporating muscle testing and energy balancing helps the patient feel seen and supported on every level.

  1. Scientific research has confirmed many links between emotions and health. Which stands out to you most?

One of the most compelling findings is how the heart generates a powerful electromagnetic field, one that changes depending on our emotional state. This supports what healers have known for centuries: that the heart holds memory and wisdom, and that emotional distress can deeply impact the body. The discovery of the Heart-Wall®, an energetic barrier around the heart made of trapped emotions, has been life-changing for many. When this wall is released, people often report breakthroughs in health, relationships and even abundance. It’s further evidence that healing the heart can change a person’s life.

  1. Why should DCs learn about energy healing methods, such as The Emotion Code and The Body Code?

DCs are natural healers. We work with the body’s wisdom and believe in its ability to heal itself. The Emotion Code and Body Code are tools that align with that philosophy. They allow DCs to help their patients not just structurally, but energetically and emotionally. These methods are easy to learn, noninvasive and can often explain why a patient isn’t progressing. Plus, they open the door for distance work, which means a practitioner can support patients from anywhere in the world; something many DCs found useful during the pandemic and beyond.

  1. What are the six areas of imbalance addressed by The Body Code, and why do they matter for DCs?

The six areas of imbalance include:

  1. Energies, such as trapped emotions and mental trauma.
  2. Circuits and systems, including the organs, glands and meridian energy flow.
  3. Toxins, both environmental and emotional.
  4. Pathogens, such as hidden infections or mold.
  5. Structural misalignments, including bones and soft tissues.
  6. Nutrition and lifestyle, addressing deficiencies and habits that block healing.

As a DC, you already understand the importance of alignment. The Body Code helps you go further by identifying hidden imbalances that may be keeping your patients stuck. Correcting these imbalances often accelerates recovery, even in tough cases.

  1. What are some solutions DCs can recommend to help patients address these root causes?

Start by addressing emotional energy; using muscle testing to identify trapped emotions and gently releasing them. Encourage your patients to support their bodies with clean nutrition, regular movement and emotional processing techniques. You might recommend they work with a certified Emotion Code or Body Code practitioner in conjunction with chiropractic care or get certified themselves. When patients begin releasing what’s weighing them down, their bodies often respond better to structural treatment, and their healing becomes much more complete.

  1. What should DCs suggest to help patients reduce stress and cope better?

Teach them how to listen to their heart. The heart knows what the body needs. When people carry trapped emotions, especially around the heart, it amplifies stress. Removing the Heart-Wall often gives patients a feeling of lightness and calm. Encourage daily practices, such as prayer, meditation, gratitude journaling or simply placing a hand over the heart and breathing deeply. These simple actions help create safety and peace within, which supports the body’s ability to heal.

  1. How can DCs support patients who struggle with emotional eating or weight loss?

Trapped emotions often contribute to emotional eating. When people have a Heart-Wall, for example, they may feel unloved or isolated and turn to food for comfort. The Body Code can help uncover the emotional roots of food cravings, self-sabotage and body-image struggles. By helping patients release these imbalances, many practitioners see powerful shifts; not just in weight loss, but in how patients feel about themselves.

  1. You’ve seen remarkable cases. Can you share some success stories?

One woman I worked with had been scheduled for back surgery. We found and released emotional imbalances that were contributing to her pain, and within days, she canceled the surgery. In fact, she no longer needed it.

Another case involved a man suffering from 20 years of migraines. A simple correction of a misaligned skull bone, along with releasing trapped emotional energy, completely resolved the headaches.

When patients experience these kinds of breakthroughs, they naturally refer others. DCs who use these tools often report increased word-of-mouth referrals and deeper, more rewarding relationships with their patients.
