Texas Chiropractic College faculty members Dr. Michael Sheppard and Dr. John Ward, along with Director of Institutional Effectiveness, Stephanie Johnson, conducted a study on the impact of potential contrast bias on manipulation scores within Moody Health Center. Moody Health Center is a multidisciplinary facility with chiropractic and medical services that also serves as the teaching clinic on the Texas Chiropractic College campus.
The study was submitted for the World Federation of Chiropractic (WFC) and Association of Chiropractic Colleges (ACC) Global Education Conference at Logan University on Nov. 2-5, 2022, where the theme was Leveling Up: Creating Consistency in Chiropractic Education.
Sheppard presented the study at the conference, where he was awarded the second place CERF-WFC Alan Adams Education Research Award out of 84 presentations.
“Dr. Adams was a staple of chiropractic education history, and I had the pleasure of working with him for six years. He was a direct and positive influence on my transition into education, and it is a tremendous honor to receive this reward,” Sheppard said. “I am also grateful for the team that worked on this study and privileged to work with them and our faculty. The focus and collaboration of this year’s conference, to standardize chiropractic education, is encouraging to continue the spread of chiropractic education and practice, and I look forward to the continued expansion of our profession across the globe.”
The Alan Adams Education Research Award is given to individuals who contribute to the body of chiropractic education literature by adding to the body of literature on current topics and modernizing chiropractic education across the globe. WFC was established in 1988 and exists to advance awareness, utilization, and integration of chiropractic internationally. ACC operates to promote chiropractic education through the leadership of a mutually supportive chiropractic academic community and by serving students, research, and evidence-based practice. Every two years these organizations hold a joint international education conference.
