Texas Chiropractic College celebrates its first female president

Chiropractic Economics Staff September 2, 2024

Texas Chiropractic College (TCC) formally celebrated Sandra Hughes, DC, MEd, FICC, as the institution’s 16th president during an investiture ceremony on Aug. 3.

The event was held inside the Dr. Yasunori Iwama Education Center on the college’s campus in Pasadena, Texas, noted a TCC press release.

Hughes, a 1994 TCC graduate who had served as TCC’s executive vice president since 2020, and also as vice president of administrative services, dean of institutional advancement and director of admissions, began her tenure as the college’s first female president Sept. 1, 2023, having been appointed to the presidency after Stephen Foster, DC, FICC, stepped down that May after about seven years of leadership.

“Seeing the growth and success of our students has been the highlight of my inaugural year,” Hughes remarked. “As a proud TCC graduate myself, I’ve witnessed how our world-class faculty, dedication to innovation and supportive community prepares students for a fulfilling and successful career in chiropractic care.”

As executive vice president, Hughes championed efforts to promote academic success and enhance the student experience. She cites prior experience with students, faculty, staff, supporters and alumni as being instrumental in her successful first year as president.

“As I journey into my second year as the leader of Texas Chiropractic College, I am more committed than ever to investing in opportunities that will inspire and empower every life TCC touches,” Hughes said. “As the education landscape changes, we will continuously improve to meet the needs of future students and patients to fulfill our mission of developing practice-ready doctors of chiropractic.”
