Southern California University of Health Sciences named 2023 Great College to Work For

Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU) once again ranked as one of the best colleges in the United States to work for, according to the Great Colleges to Work For program.

In the 2023 rankings, SCU was also named to the Great Colleges Honor Roll, a status granted to colleges that were highlighted most across the recognition categories.

The results are based on a survey of 194 colleges and universities. In all, 72 of those institutions achieved “Great College to Work For” recognition for specific best practices and policies. Results are reported for small, medium, and large institutions, with SCU included among the small universities with 500 to 2,999 students. The complete results are available at GreatCollegesList.com.

SCU received honors in five categories this year:

  • Compensation & Benefits
  • Supervisor/Department Chair Effectiveness
  • Confidence in Senior Leadership
  • Faculty & Staff Well-being
  • Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging

In addition to being granted honor roll status, 2023 marks the first year SCU received an honor in the Faculty & Staff Well-being category. This, along with the Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging category highlights the University’s commitment to its values of inclusivity and health equity, where we strive to leave every person feeling valued and trusted.

“We work hard to ensure our faculty and staff thrive, have opportunity and space for development, and to create an environment where everyone’s voice and contribution counts,” Siti Williams, Director of People and Culture, said. “While our greatest reward is knowing our employees are fulfilled in various aspects of their work life here at SCU, we are extremely proud to receive our first-ever Honor Roll distinction. Being recognized in a new category for 2023, Faculty & Staff Well-being, further reinforces our commitment to our staff.”

The survey results are based on a two-part assessment process: an institution questionnaire that captures employment data and workplace policies from each institution, and a survey administered to faculty, administrators, and professional support staff. The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was the employee feedback.

SCU received a 42% response rate to its employee survey, with questions receiving an 80% positive rate overall.

The Great Colleges to Work For program is one of the largest and most respected workplace-recognition programs in the country. ModernThink, a strategic human capital consulting firm, administered the survey and analyzed the results.
