Sherman College of Chiropractic has established a new endowed scholarship funded by a generous donation from 2001 graduate Sam Wang, DC, cofounder of Chiro One Wellness Centers, a network of more than 50 chiropractic clinics across the Midwest.
Sherman’s new scholarship will be awarded each fall to an upper-quarter student who has demonstrated exceptional patient care in the Chiropractic Health Center, a hands-on teaching clinic for chiropractic interns in their final stage of study, noted a Sherman College press release. The teaching environment, coordinated by licensed doctors, allows interns to practice chiropractic under close supervision and ongoing consultation. Operated as a true chiropractic practice, the center allows students to gain exposure to the daily aspects of running a practice while simultaneously refining their interpersonal and clinical skills in caring for patients at every stage of life, from pediatric to geriatric.
“On behalf of Sherman College of Chiropractic, I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Sam Wang for his generosity in establishing the Chiro One Wellness Center endowed scholarship that will impact our interns for years to come,” said Sherman President Jack Bourla, DC. “Dr. Wang’s commitment to supporting our students exemplifies the spirit of giving that propels Sherman and the chiropractic profession forward.”
“Chiro One Wellness Centers’ vision is that all human beings discover their full potential. We support that vision by providing corrective wellness-based chiropractic services and resources,” Wang explained. “Our goal is to share the importance of an optimally functioning spine and nervous system and play an integral role in the overall wellness of individuals, companies and communities.”
Wang believes support for future chiropractic leaders is a crucial part of the growing paradigm shift toward chiropractic care being the premier choice in wellness. As an undergraduate the Sherman alum attended The University of Iowa with plans to pursue a medical career, but a personal injury due to a motor vehicle accident during that time led to his discovery of chiropractic. After completing his bachelor’s degree, Wang attended Sherman College, where he graduated with honors. An entrepreneur and philanthropist, he holds board certifications as an Atlas Orthogonist and independent medical examiner, is an extension faculty member at eight academic institutions and was named Sherman’s 2011 Chiropractor of the Year.
