8 tips for handling patient criticism

Personal Growth | Consider how the following all-too-possible scenario and how you’d handle it. Dr. Smith opens the door to the treatment room to find his 18-year-old patient, Ashley, white-faced and grimacing. He asks her how her day is going, and she says, “OK, except for the burn.” Smith does a double-take, but Ashley shows no sign of sunburn. Upon inquiring further, Ashley explains that the staff had put her on the electrical stimulation unit and then left her alone in the treatment room.

How you can help keep first responders on their feet

Research Results | When firefighters arrive on a scene, they’re typically wearing between 50 and 75 pounds of gear. While working in bulky pants and jackets, helmets, air tanks, masks, and heavy rubber or leather boots, they could also be dragging hoses, carrying heavy tools, or pulling people out of burning buildings. And it’s safe to say that many of these tasks are performed with incorrect posture. The potential for injury is high, to say the least.

Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization is rooted in ancient medicine

Technique Speak | There are many established methods of treatment for both acute and chronic soft-tissue injuries. Examples of such include massage (many different types), dry needling, active release technique, heat, ice, vibration, taping, exercise (including stretching), and passive modalities such as therapeutic ultrasound. Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization (IASTM) is one of these methods.

The cost of noncompliance is greater than you think

Feature | The statistics paint a disquieting picture. In the October 2016 Office of Inspector General (OIG) report, it was estimated that 82 percent of payments made in 2013 to doctors of chiropractic were “unallowable” or noncompliant with CMS rules in one way or another. The amount of overpayments to DCs was estimated to be approximately $360 million. And almost every day in the news you can find reports of a chiropractor arrested for some type of fraud or abuse of third-party payers.

Understanding holistic financial planning for DCs

Money Management The money you earn today can have a transformative effect on your future and the people you cherish. That said, today’s busy chiropractors often lack the time and expertise necessary to take a comprehensive approach when it comes to financial planning. Protecting and building your wealth requires a team of professionals who can create a coordinated strategy to ensure a lifetime of financial success.

What you need to know about cybersecurity

Legal Ease Healthcare is changing at a rapid pace as provide endeavor to maintain maximum efficiency while navigating a technology-rich environment. But as a result of their reliance on electronic data, chiropractic practices have become vulnerable to cybersecurity threats. The growing volume and sophistication of cyberattacks suggest that practices will have to grow increasingly vigilant to ward off these threats.

Your patients need help managing their chiropractic care options

Practice Central | With all the uncertainty surrounding “what’s next” in healthcare coverage, whether it be “repeal and replace” or a scaled back version of the Affordable Care Act, or a new model entirely, the reality is the same. People do not always buy what they need, but they always seem to find a way to buy what they want. And they often buy more than they need, and more than they can afford when presented with ways to make that possible.
