Phase 2 of CMS Open Payments system registration begins mid-July

Chiropractic Economics July 14, 2014

ThinkstockPhotos-187296803July 14, 2014 — The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that starting later this month, physicians and teaching hospitals can begin registration in Phase 2 of the Open Payments system.

According to CMS, “Open Payments creates greater transparency around the financial relationships of manufacturers, physicians, and teaching hospitals.”

Although registration is voluntary, it is required if the physician or teaching hospital wants to access the data and dispute what has been reported about them by applicable manufacturers and group purchasing organizations (GPOs). Registration for physicians and teaching hospitals is conducted in two phases for this first Open Payments reporting year.

Phase 1 (available at any time) includes user registration in the CMS Enterprise Portal. Use the Phase 1 Step-by-Step CMS Enterprise Portal Registration for Physicians and Teaching Hospitals presentation for guidance on how to complete this portion of the registration.

Phase 2 of the program will begin late in July.
