April 7, 2012 — Through a donation of Thera-Band professional resistance exercise products, Performance Health is supporting Athletes in Action (AIA) Sports Performance’s 2012 mission trips to Armenia, Guatemala, Mexico, and South Africa.
The donated Thera-Band products will be used as educational and training tools at AIA’s international sports medicine clinics.
Athletes in Action is an international sports ministry with more than 500 staff members in 60 countries and a ministry presence in 90 countries. In the U.S., through its work with 35 professional teams and staff on almost 200 college’s campuses, AIA focuses on ministering to athletes, coaches, and support staff.
AIA’s international staff members work to impact their county through the platform of sport. Each year, AIA sends mission teams around the world to conduct 35 domestic and international tours, camps, and projects. AIA’s Sports Performance Department organizes clinical education teams of physicians, athletic trainers, strength coaches, and other experts in the field of sports medicine and strength and conditioning.
“We are very grateful to Performance Health for their generous product donation,” stated Paul Newman, MS, ATC, director, AIA Sports Performance. “These professional products enable us to provide the best educational tools available at our clinics, and allow us to enhance the knowledge of international colleagues in the area of sports medicine.”

“Like music and art, sports is a universal language with the power to positively impact a culture. Sports can break down political, racial and economic barriers and restore national pride,” continued Newman. “Because sports can speak a language that children around the world understand, we can rebuild youth sports programs that strengthen ethics and values for the individual, positively impacting society overall. As a ministry, we not only meet the physical needs of individuals, we have the opportunity to meet their spiritual needs too.”
“We are very pleased to be able to support AIA’s international initiatives with our products,” added Phil Page, PhD, PT, ATC, FACSM, director of Thera-Band Academy. “We’ve been supporting AIA for several years in their efforts to provide athletic training services to support safe sports around the world.”
