Parker University student Alexis Gray has been chosen for the prestigious Virtual Student Federal Service (VSFS) program within the Health Information Management sector, administered by the Veterans Health Administration (VHA).

Gray, notes a university press release, is currently a student in Parker’s Health Information Management (HIM) program, which focuses on healthcare data and managing healthcare information resources. The profession addresses the complex nature, structure and translation of data into usable forms of information, including electronic health records, for advancing health and the healthcare of individuals and populations.

“For as long as I can remember, I knew I wanted to be in the healthcare field. The only trouble was trying to figure out what I truly wanted to do,” said Gray. “In 2022, I decided to take the leap and do something small. I ended up graduating with my MA/NCT licenses. But what was next? I knew I wanted more and to help patients receive the best care.”

Gray continued, “Health information management is a career I researched to know what it entails and how I could benefit from this degree and help others. Once I received the information regarding the VA internship, I knew it was something I wanted to do and needed to do to get a grasp on my future career. I’m very thankful for the opportunity!”

The VSFS is an eInternship program for U.S. citizen students (college-level and above) to work on global projects throughout the U.S. government. VSFS is managed by the Office of eDiplomacy in the U.S. Department of State’s Information Resource Management Bureau. Through VSFS, the government benefits from a new generation of U.S. citizen students who can help advance national priorities on projects worldwide.

“Parker University has gone above and beyond to offer scholarships, internships and the knowledge I’ve needed to thrive in my future career,” Gray said.
