Northwestern named top 10 for acupuncture

Chiropractic Economics July 8, 2016

July 7, 2016—Northwestern Health Sciences University has been named one of the nation’s Top 10 colleges and universities for acupuncture studies by TheBestSchools.org, an independent educational organization that annually ranks schools of all kinds.

“The school emphasizes clinical training, hands-on skill-building as well as a foundation in Eastern tradition and modern science,” TheBestSchools.org said in its review. Among other qualities highlighted, TheBestSchools.org noted that Northwestern “provides one clinical faculty member for every three interns.”
TheBestSchools.org receives more than 30,000 visits daily and seeks to help students “gain the knowledge, skills and credentials [they] need to achieve personal happiness and career success.” The organization annually ranks colleges, universities and K-12 schools nationwide based on program offerings, student performance and a range qualities regularly identified as important to students and their parents.

“We are pleased and honored to be ranked in TheBestSchools.org’s Top 10 list for colleges and universities nationwide teaching acupuncture,” said Northwestern President Christopher Cassirer. “Acupuncture is an effective, popular and growing field of health care, and we’ve recognized its importance for many years.”
He added: “At Northwestern, we have assembled a team of outstanding, world-class faculty and clinicians who are educating students so they can pursue acupuncture as a career and practice at the highest level. Our goal is to be the premier health sciences university that helps create a healthier world. Our acupuncture program plays a vital role in helping us achieve that.”

The acupuncture program is housed within Northwestern’s College of Health and Wellness. Dean Dale Healey said the College is proud of the many clinical practice opportunities that acupuncture students receive while at Northwestern.

“Our students not only have a chance to observe and help with clinical work but also must complete a rigorous program of direct clinical practice to receive their degrees,” Healey said. “That is part of the healthy culture of hands-on work we instill at Northwestern. We’re able to deliver those opportunities to students because of our many clinic offerings on campus and in the community.”
