December 12, 2008 — More than 20 students and staff from Northwestern Health Sciences University spent the evening of Nov. 19, 2008, making 60 fleece blankets. Northwestern’s Student Senate Volunteer Committee organized the effort to make and donate blankets for mothers with new babies who may be homeless, or otherwise in need of help in keeping their little ones warm this winter. The blankets will be distributed by an organization called Bundles of Love.
Volunteer Committee chair Joessa Austin, T4 chiropractic, coordinated the event. “This event came out of my desire to reach out to the community in a way that hasn’t been done before at Northwestern,” Austin says. “I decided on this because it requires no money and little effort from students, staff, and faculty.” The fleece and other supplies were purchased with money raised at a student/faculty talent show held at the university in October. This is the second year that the student senate has coordinated this effort.
