November 22, 2013 — Chuck Sawyer, DC, senior vice president at Northwestern Health Sciences University, was recently named to an advisory committee of the MNsure Board of Directors. He is one of 17 members of the Health Industry advisory committee, whose charter is to provide guidance, advice and recommendations to the board. A second committee composed of consumers and small employer members will serve in a similar capacity.
“I developed an early interest in the insurance exchange initiative very early in the 2013 legislative process out of a concern for the large number of Minnesotans who lack adequate coverage and the challenge that presents when they have serious health problems.” said Sawyer. “I hope that by participating on this committee I will be able to bring some visibility to our professions and Northwestern Health Sciences University.”
MNsure is the new central marketplace where Minnesotans can get quality, affordable health insurance and access tax credits or assistance to help pay for coverage. Individuals, families and small employers can use the MNsure website to search and compare plans, and a hotline for personal assistance with health insurance options.
Enrollment began in October 2013, and plan coverage starts Jan. 1, 2014.
MNsure is a collaborative, multi-agency effort with the Department of Commerce, the Department of Health, the Department of Human Services, MN.IT and Minnesota Management and Budget. Stakeholder input is also imperative and has been solicited to provide dialogue with diverse populations statewide to support ongoing development.
