Northwestern Health Sciences University announces creation of the College of Undergraduate Health Sciences

Chiropractic Economics October 15, 2011

October 14, 2011 — The Undergraduate Studies Program at Northwestern Health Sciences University has been consolidated into the newly formed College of Undergraduate Health Sciences.

The university recently revised the academic organizational structure to incorporate the School of Massage Therapy, the BS Completion Program, and the pre-professional undergraduate courses into the new college.

By merging the separate units into one, Northwestern hopes to expand its undergraduate offerings and create efficiencies among the components. Under the umbrella of the College of Undergraduate Health Sciences, the University will advance the development of new programs aimed to serve a growing need in the job market for professionals with an education focused on the health sciences.

New programming will include certification and associates level programs in various CAM and natural health care fields.  Health coaching, integrative health and wellness and a bachelor’s degree in massage therapy are all possibilities.

Dale Healey, DC, formerly dean of the School of Massage Therapy has taken the role of Dean of the College of Undergraduate Health Sciences. Donald Deal, PhD, is the new Associate Dean. According to Dr. Healey, there is a huge opportunity for growth in the undergraduate program. “Despite little marketing, students are finding us. We expect this will open the door even further to prospective students as we develop additional programing.”

While there is much work to be done, Dr. Healey expects that as early as Fall of 2013, students will be entering Northwestern as undergraduate freshmen seeking a bachelor degree from the University.
