July 24, 2012 — Northwestern Health Sciences University recently announced the addition of two new graduate degrees to its growing roster of programs. Offered as part of a newly formed College of Graduate Health Sciences, the Master of Health Science degree programs are fully accredited by the Higher Learning Commission of the North Central Association of Colleges and Schools.
The new degrees are in Clinical Nutrition and Clinical Chiropractic Orthopedics. The university was previously approved to offer a Master of Health Science degree in Diagnostic Imaging.
“We are very proud to introduce these new degree programs,” stated Michael Wiles, DC, MEd, MS, provost and interim president of Northwestern. “These new programs are part of a larger strategy to meet the needs of today’s healthcare providers for advanced degree programs in the clinical sciences.”
The new degrees are aimed at healthcare providers interested in enhancing their knowledge and education in areas that can expand the services offered to patients. The curriculum consists of 40 graduate credits within three years, with 30 percent of the coursework completed online and 70 percent completed in a series of weekend seminars. The orthopedics program was developed in cooperation with the Academy of Chiropractic Orthopedists. The nutrition program will include functional nutrition content related to whole food interventions.
“We are excited to welcome students to our new programs,” said Noel Aldrich, assistant professor and Standard Process Endowed Nutrition Chair at Northwestern. “The programs are designed for busy healthcare providers, and are ideal for those interested in advancing their education and clinical practice in the competitive healthcare market.” The university expects to accept the first group of students to the Clinical Nutrition and Clinical Chiropractic Orthopedics programs for the Winter term starting January 2013. The MHS in Diagnostic Imaging is not currently accepting applications.
