Northeast College of Health Sciences opened the new Imaging Sciences wing of its Anatomy Center, unveiling cutting-edge sonography and radiological suites, during a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Feb. 13. During the event, community and state leaders also recognized the College for advancing healthcare education in the region.

The new Imaging Sciences facilities provide advanced learning spaces for students in Northeast’s NEW associate degree programs in radiologic technology and diagnostic medical sonography. The suites are also the latest addition to the College’s state-of-the-art Anatomy Center, which already features the Computerized Anatomy Resource Lab (CARL) containing 3D virtual Anatomage technology, an extensive cadaveric dissection lab and an observation theater.

“There is already a master’s program in diagnostic imaging here at Northeast that is a model in its field. So Northeast has always been well set up to offer imaging sciences education,” said Director of Imaging Sciences Roger Weeden. “This new wing (for undergraduate study) pulls it all together. We have the infrastructure, the knowledgeable faculty and the technology at the forefront of imaging sciences education. We are ready to move our new sonography and radiologic technology programs forward with Northeast’s ever-better philosophy and commitment to academic excellence.”

Community leaders express kudos to Northeast College

Kicking off the ribbon-cutting event, Seneca Falls Chamber of Commerce President and CEO Jeff Shipley welcomed the College community and visitors.

“This is a momentous moment, not only for the College but for Seneca Falls and the region,” Shipley said. “The Chamber is proud to be part of it and move forward as a long-time partner.”

Northeast College also received a New York State Assembly Citation award at the event. The award was presented by Chief of Staff Alexis Ogra, representing New York State Assemblyman Jeff Gallahan’s office, who noted the College’s important work in expanding healthcare education opportunities in the region.

Also speaking to the Northeast community on behalf of New York State Senator Thomas F. O’Mara, Assistant Legislator Craig Pemberton commended the College for moving into its second century of providing excellent healthcare education, training students with new and emerging technologies and continuing to advance the Finger Lakes region.

Exploring Northeast’s new degrees, technology and future

Local business leaders, students and community members who attended the event had the opportunity to explore all of Northeast’s new programs and technology. The new imaging sciences labs and classrooms were open for tours, where student ambassadors and Northeast faculty were on hand to answer questions about all the College’s in-demand degrees and 286-acre, healthcare-focused campus.

The addition of the new sonography and radiologic technology suites provide incoming undergraduate students with the most advanced equipment as they study to earn their AAS degrees in less than two years. Other new Northeast College programs beginning in Fall 2024 include a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in health care administration that can be completed fully online in less than three years, and a Massage Therapy certificate program that prepares students to become a licensed massage therapist (LMT). Northeast also anticipates offering a planned future M.S. in physician assistant studies.

Northeast College President Michael Mestan, DC, Ed.D., said the goal is not to just educate, but to inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals. “We are pleased to become a new source of providing a highly skilled workforce for our regional health centers and hospitals, and to help improve the health and wellness of the members of our community,” Mestan said. “Together let us continue to strive for excellence and make a lasting impact on the future of healthcare, our College and the Finger Lakes region.
