New therapy device decreases costs for shoulder injuries

Chiropractic Economics Staff March 18, 2012

March 18, 2012 — People with shoulder injuries will now have an inexpensive and safe option to perform Passive Range of Motion (PROM) shoulder exercises in their own home for about the cost of one co-payment.

Previously, in order to receive PROM at home, one would have to rent a machine for hundreds of dollars per week or have a physical therapist come to the home.

The SLINGPROM is a patented shoulder pulley system designed to enable these exercises to be performed at home. This can not be done with a traditional shoulder pulley.

According to the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons, shoulder problems accounted for 7.5 million doctor visits in 2006, with approximately half of these injuries to the rotator cuff. In addition, adhesive capsulitis (frozen shoulder) is estimated to be experienced by 3 percent to 5 percent of the U.S. population annually.
