National Board of Chiropractic Examiners conducts seminar for Part IV Chief Examiners

Chiropractic Economics September 3, 2010

September 3, 2010 — Chief Examiners for the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners’ Part IV National Practical Examination met at the National Board in Greeley, Colo. Aug. 20-21, to discuss the upcoming administration of the exam in November.

Horace Elliott, Executive Vice President, welcomed the group to Greeley, held in the Horace C. Elliott Center on the campus of the NBCE.  He thanked them for taking time away from their practices to be part of such an important workshop.

Dr. Paul Townsend, Director of Practical Testing Research and Development, also thanked the chief examiners for their attendance. “Reliability is the core of this assessment and this organization appreciates all you do in helping with that reliability.”

Part IV is a labor-intensive examination and the chief examiners are responsible for recruiting examiners and overseeing the examination at test sites.  Chief examiners also conduct examiner orientation the day of the exam, administer the Diagnostic Imaging Examination and correspond with standardized patients, patient trainers, and the NBCE as needed.

During the meeting they discussed making changes in subject weightings as a result of findings in the 2010 Practice Analysis Survey, which will improve reproducibility of scores. There have been 30 administrations of the Part IV Examination, testing almost 49,000 students since its launch year of 1996.
