Multi Radiance Laser Therapy Technology Helping Koalas Injured in Australia Bushfires

Npaaymans March 11, 2021

January 10, 2020 – (SOLON, Ohio) – Therapeutic laser device manufacturer Multi Radiance Medical (MRM) appeared on two local news stories this week in the Cleveland area after the company’s super pulsed laser was featured in a viral video and in photos helping koalas injured in the recent Australia bushfires.

Nearly 18 million acres of land have been burned and experts estimate that almost a half billion animals have died in the fires, including one-third of all koalas in New South Wales.

The Port Macquarie Koala Hospital in Port Macquarie, New South Wales, has been inundated with koalas over the last few months during the bushfires. The facility normally treats 3-4 koalas a month, and now they are housing nearly 60.

In November 2019, REM Systems‘ Simone Taylor and Matt Jones, DVM, introduced Multi Radiance’s MR4 ACTIVet PRO LaserShower to the veterinarians at the Koala Hospital to relieve pain and accelerate burn healing in the injured koalas.

Low-level laser therapy can cut the healing time of a burn wound sometimes in half so that the animals can recover faster as more injured koalas arrive at the hospital. The Koala Hospital was featured in a viral video from Yahoo Lifestyle Australia profiling their rescue efforts and using the lasers.

Cleveland’s Fox 8 News and NBC affiliate WKYC Channel 3 both visited the MRM headquarters in Solon, OH earlier this week to find out more about how laser therapy works to heal these koalas.
