March 1, 2010 — The Minnesota College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (MCAOM) at Northwestern Health Sciences University has received a full seven-year reaccreditation, the maximum length of time possible.
The accrediting agency, the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM) approved the reaccreditation in early February, 2010.
According to Mark McKenzie, MOm, LAc, dean of MCAOM. “This is what we both hoped for and expected. We are extremely pleased that the decision affirmed our findings.”
The reaccreditation effort encompassed nearly two years and a lengthy self-study. The self-study resulted in nearly 70 recommendations for changes and improvements within the program. By the time of the ACAOM site visit in late 2009, 15 of the recommendations had already been implemented.
According to McKenzie, MCAOM will continue working to implement the additional recommendations “as we continually strive to improve our program.”
