The Master of Science in Sports Science and Rehabilitation (MSSSR) program at Logan University is moving from 15-week courses to seven-week courses in January 2025, making it more time-effective for students.
“This accelerated Sports Science degree format will allow our full-time students to complete the program in just one year and move forward with their certification and career goals,” said Brittany Ramirez, DC (’15), MS (’18), LAT, ATC, CCSP®, program director for Logan’s MSSSR program, in a press release. “This change also ensures that our MSSSR program stays competitive within the field.”
Full-time students will take two courses every seven-week session, completing the program in one year. Part-time students are still able to take one course per session, completing the program in two years.
“We’ve worked on exciting curriculum updates that shorten the program completion time but meet learning outcomes, to ensure that students have every opportunity to master the content through check-ins, learning content and assessments,” added Ramirez. “Our goal was to make the course information more accessible to students as they balance lives and families.”
Two concentrations available
Students who enroll in Logan’s MSSSR program are also able to choose from two concentrations: exercise physiology and sports rehabilitation.
In the exercise physiology concentration, students will focus on developing and testing workout programs for healthy individuals as well as those with medically controlled diseases. This pathway also prepares students to sit for the ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist® exam and the NSCA Certified Special Population Specialist (CSPS) exam.
The sports rehabilitation concentration allows students to focus on the rehabilitation side of healthcare.
“Whether you are an athletic trainer adding to your skill set or preparing to move on to a doctoral program such as occupational therapy or physical therapy, the sports rehabilitation concentration is really going to dive deep into the principles of rehabilitation and help you create your protocols,” Ramirez said.
Additionally, for Logan’s dual-enrolled Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) students and practicing DCs, the sports rehabilitation concentration will help prepare them for the Certified Chiropractic Sports Physician® (CCSP) exam.
