Logan University receives Paraquad’s Shine the Light Award

Logan University has been honored with Paraquad’s 2015 Shine the Light Award.

This is the first time Logan has earned the award, which recognizes organizations and individuals whose actions promote a fully accessible community for people with disabilities and anyone who benefits from increased accessibility. Logan faculty and students have provided hands-on chiropractic treatment to Paraquad members since July 2013.

“This award is just a small symbol of Logan’s enormous commitment to help better the lives of people with disabilities by educating their interns and faculty to care for such dynamic individuals in an integrated healthcare system,” said Logan Associate Professor Dana Underkofler-Mercer, DC, MS, who initiated the partnership between Logan and Paraquad in 2012. The program is now led by Kelley Humphries, DC, MS, LP, fellow at Logan’s Human Performance Center.

Award nominees were selected by peers based on criteria such as employment and hiring practices, accessible facilities, customer service training, support and advocacy for disability rights and services, and more.

Underkofler-Mercer and Clay McDonald, DC, MBA, JD, president of Logan University, will accept the award on behalf of Logan at the 2015 Shine the Light Awards event on Nov. 4 at the Ritz-Carlton in St. Louis.
