Logan University adds master’s degree in health informatics

April 6, 2015 — Logan University has announced the addition of a new master’s degree focused on healthcare technology and administration.

The Master of Science Degree in Health Informatics (MSHI) is designed to address the rapidly growing area of information system design, data management, health policy, and public health issues. It is geared toward those looking to gain more experience in the areas of healthcare, information technology, and business.

Sherri Cole, PhD, dean of the College of Health Sciences, said as the healthcare industry continues to evolve, the demand for heath informatics professionals is growing.

“Logan has developed this degree because we recognize the critical role health informatics plays in healthcare delivery, now and in the future,” she said. “This degree will train professionals who understand how health care is delivered and how technology can be used to its full potential to ensure high quality patient care.”

Beginning in fall 2015, the MSHI degree program will be offered in a hybrid format, allowing students to enroll in weekday evening classes on campus as well as online.

The MSHI degree program consists of 24 credit hours of core coursework with the option of choosing one out of the four concentration areas: healthcare compliance, health policy and management, public health, and quality systems.

Graduates are eligible to sit for the Certified Professional in Health Information & Management Systems (CPHIMS) certification.
