Logan graduates 50 new doctors of chiropractic

Chiropractic Economics Staff August 30, 2012

August 30, 2012 — Logan College of Chiropractic/University Programs held its 168th commencement for the degree of Doctor of Chiropractic Aug. 25, 2012.

The ceremony, which included the academic hooding of each graduate, honored 50 students with the conferral of the Doctor of Chiropractic degree by Logan President George A. Goodman, DC, FICC.

Twenty-nine students received their Masters in Sports Science and Rehabilitation degrees from Logan University Programs. Erica K. Witgen, DC, received her Master of Science in Nutrition and Human Performance. The commencement speaker was Larry Conners, prime anchor for KMOV-TV CBS, and an award-winning newsman. Norman W.  Kettner, DC, DACBR, chair of Logan’s Department of Radiology, served as master of ceremonies.

Seven Doctor of Chiropractic graduates were recognized with special academic honors. They included: valedictorian Derek D. Smith — summa cum laude (3.88 GPA or better); Patrick J. Battaglia, Jacquelyn R. Bowman-Garrett, Heidi M. Heath, Alex D. Mitchell and Benjamin P. Williams — magna cum laude (3.74 GPA or better); and Lacey A. Perrett — cum laude (3.6 GPA or better).

Graduating students honored for making the Dean’s List over 10 consecutive trimesters included: Patrick J. Battaglia, Heidi M. Heath, Derek D. Smith and Benjamin P. Williamson. Ten DC graduates were selected for inclusion in the Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges. They are: Patrick J. Battaglia, Jacquelyn R. Bowman-Garrett, Leanne M. Dalton, Heidi M. Heath, Carolyn P. Maxfield, Alex D. Mitchell, Lacey A. Perrett, Derek D. Smith, Randi R. Tyler and Benjamin P. Williams.

Three MS graduates also received Honors with Distinction for graduating with a GPA of 3.8 or better. They are: Joseph P. Blampied, DC; Elisabeth M. Pang, DC; and Erica K. Witgen, DC.
