Logan graduates 113 new doctors of chiropractic

December 20, 2011 — Logan College of Chiropractic/University Programs held its 166th commencement for the degree of Doctor of Chiropractic Saturday, Dec. 17, 2011, in the William D. Purser, DC, Center on the Logan campus.

The ceremony, which included the academic hooding of each graduate, honored 113 students with the conferral of the Doctor of Chiropractic degree by Logan President George A. Goodman, DC, FICC. Fourteen students received their Masters in Sports Science and Rehabilitation degrees.

The commencement speaker at the graduation ceremony was Dr. Terry Yochum, director of the Rocky Mountain Chiropractic Radiological Center in Denver, and an adjunct professor of radiology at Southern California University of Health Sciences.

Yochum is a second-generation chiropractic physician and a cum laude graduate of the National College of Chiropractic, where he subsequently completed his radiology specialty. He is the youngest recipient to be honored as a fellow by the American Chiropractic College of Radiology (ACCR) for distinguished service and contributions in the advancement of chiropractic radiology.

In his career, he has presented more than 1,200 lectures worldwide and had more than 250 scientific articles published in chiropractic and medical literature. Yochum’s daughter, Alicia M. Yochum, is a summa cum laude graduate in the December 2011 Logan Doctor of Chiropractic class.

In addition to Alicia Yochum, 28 other graduates were recognized with special academic honors. They included: valedictorian Darcee A. Schmidt, Derek P. Smith, Alicia M. Yochum and Leon C. Hansmeier — summa cum laude (3.88 GPA or better; Jordan H. Mackner, Elizabeth R. McClain, David T. Bergmann, Jonathan L. Elson, Elizabeth A. Paunicka, Joseph P. Blampied, Benjamin F. Rhoades, MaryAnne M. Harrington, Jason S. Pirigyi, and David P. Kauffman — magna cum laude (3.74 GPA or better); and Nicholas R. Wachtel, Elyssa M. Lindenberger, Zachary C.R. Leible, Jennifer L. Richardson, Shaun M. Briggs, Brice A. Wiltgen, David A. Glazer, Daniel J. Weessies, Joseph D. Kling, Aaron L.T. Stinson, Lisa A. Griffith, LaRissa M. Tilley, Steven A. Antoniotti, Sharonrose A. Samelak, and Ashley F. Madden — cum laude (3.6 GPA or better).

Twenty-five graduates, all recipients of special academic honors, were selected for inclusion in the Who’s Who Among Students in American Universities & Colleges. They are: Darcee A. Schmidt, Derek P. Smith, Alicia M. Yochum, Leon C. Hansmeier, Jordan H. Mackner, Elizabeth R. McClain, David T. Bergmann, Jonathan L. Elson, Elizabeth A. Paunicka, Joseph P. Blampied, Benjamin F. Rhoades, MaryAnne M. Harrington, Jason S. Pirigyi, Nicholas R. Wachtel, Elyssa M. Lindenberger, Zachary C.R. Leible, Jennifer L. Richardson, Brice A. Wiltgen, Daniel J. Weessies, Joseph D. Kling, Lisa A. Griffith, LaRissa M. Tilley, Steven A. Antoniotti, Sharonrose A. Samelak, and Ashley F. Madden.
